    Embossed Alligator Sporran
This may raise the hackles of some traditionalists but I did it and think it's cool. I wanted to make one out of materials I had laying around before I made one from a red fox pelt that I have from my childhood trapping days. I've been wanting a brown sporran, had a few hours to kill and decided to make my first attempt. A copy of my casual black sporran. A picture is worth a thousand words so I'll post a few of the process and the final product.

copied front and back of existing sporran

Made a big belt loop so I can wear it hiking or use a frog and chain/belt. Sewed in the middle piece and made it a little roomier

Sewed the front to middle then to back that already had a piece of finished leather inside to hide the snap.

finished snaps, made and installed some tassles

Kinda done, a little finish tweaking and it will be serviceable

    Finished Alligator Sporran
O.K. it didn't look good in the pictures so I finished all the edges and gave it a shine. I think it looks much better now.

O.K., In case you haven't noticed I'm a little manic. I'm finishing my doctorate in a week and I have no idea how I'm going to fill up my days. If I get a chance I'll whip up another one, now that I've done it once it'll be easy. We'll work out a trade. No! my ears are staying the way they are.

I liked it on the original pictures, but I didnt like the tassles. Once you finished the edges though, wow, that thing looks great.

I'm not sure what kilt I would wear it with, but I really like it. I would take one of those over a plain brown sporran any day.

Very nice looking...and I'm one that like the more traditional sporrans. One suggestion...get rid of the chains and just have the alligator belt for the sporran. Rethinking my views on non-traditional materials for sporrans.
