Easter Week Trip
Leaving on Easter Monday for five days, I took a short holiday to the Caithness and Sutherland Highlands of Scotland. On the journey up we were met with drifting snow at times. Otherwise the weather was as you can see in the photos. I was kilted every evening, but it was just too cold and windy thru the day. I'm afraid I've no pictures of me on my camera, but am on my 3 other friends.
We stopped at Dornoch Cathedral. This is where Madonna got married.

We stayed in the little town of Thurso. This is Sir Johns' Square

Nearer to the coastline sits the remains of old St Peters Kirk c1220.

On the coast itself sits the castle ruins. Sorry not able to get any details of it.

Our holiday consisted of inclusive day trips which took us to the following:
Loch Eribol

My favourite had to be Durness. This is reported to be a favourite childhood holiday spot for the late John Lennon whos grandparents would take him there. I wonder how they managed the trip in those days.

Famously known for being the most northerly part of the British mainland, but in fact is not, John Ogroats

So, the most northerly part of the British mainland is Dunnet Head. You can see the Orkney Islands from here which is around 20 miles.

And to wrap it up, Tongue Bay with one of the locals.

I am really glad I went this holiday as it gives me a further appreciation of my own country. Isn't it beautiful?

Beautiful images!
My paternal grandmother came from Sutherland but I have never been able to trace precisely where. I should just love to get that far north for a visit but all I can manage this year is a week in Argyll and Perthshire in June - going as far north as my sporting estate in Glen Spean!
Looking forward to the next 'batch' of your photos.
Take care,
Ham.
