    New Bonnet!
Well, there were at least two Highland Games going on this weekend that I am aware of -- in Gatlingburg, TN, and in Springfield, MO. Sadly I was not at either.

I was at work today, manning the museum. So at least I was kilted. :-)

Lucky for me, however, that Ryan Ross chose today to come by and deliver a freshly knit bonnet for one of our customers.

I knew from the first time I saw one of his bonnets that I was eventually going to have him make one for me, but just had to choose a color. I've really been leaning towards the brown, and had just decided to put in my order.

Then he shows up at the museum with this black one, with a red toorie. And then he and his girlfriend start to mention how it went so well with the kilt I was wearing... and one thing led to another....

Well, I came home from the museum this evening wearing a new bonnet. I bought the black one PLUS went ahead and put my order in for the brown.

What do ya'll think of my new acquisition?

Typically his bonnets come standard with a matching colored toorie, but this one he made with a red one, which I think is a good choice for the black. (If anyone is considering making an order and wants a different colored toorie or headband, just let us know, he'll be happy to accommodate).

I'm really very happy with this bonnet, and already looking forward to the brown one (which I also requested with a red toorie, plus a red band). I really am a fan of items like this -- hand crafted, quality, well researched and well made. I also really like items of Highland dress that are very historical/traditional, yet from a recent enough time in history that they can easily be worn with modern-day Highland Dress. The word "timeless" comes to mind. :-)

So thanks, Ryan, for a job well done. I'm a very happy customer!

    Very nice!

The bit in the description about "approximately 10,000 stitches" is not advertising hype, either! The one I've been working on --- a different style --- has about 8,400.

    Lookin' good, Sir. :D

Here's a cell phone pic, taken inside the actual STM. :p

Indeed. I think this particular black bonnet contains 9,720, but I'm not that great at math.

Yep. I like it. I can't wait for Ryan to make mine. Then, will I want a brown one? A black one?

    Way to go Matt.

PS: I wish I were as photogenic as you and Ryan. Virginia had something to say about that!

Hmm... I think I counted 9,723 but I may have missed one or two....

    Nice looking hat Matt.

I have a hat that is kind of similar to that one.

At a recent kilt night we were discussing what kind of hat is OK to wear with a kilt. We finally decided that if you were wearing the kilt as every day wear, any hat that you liked and were happy wearing with the kilt was OK,--- AS LONG AS IT WASN'T A FUNNY HAT!!!

At the end of the evening I put on my floppy hat with the red pom-pom and went home.

Very sharp, very nice bonnet, and looks pretty good on the wearer!
I wonder how that would look with a plant badge? Now I gotta find more money, how long is the list?
