I believe this may be incorrect as my brother has a MacDonald box pleat from his time associated with this regiment, now enfolded into the NS Highlanders. I believe it is referred to as the 2nd Battalion, but I've been wrong before.

    Nice post though, Terry. ty.

    Thank You Terry !

I've been wanting this list for a long time !

Now, a real treat (and task !) would be to have one picture for each Regiment... :D

Found the following on the Cape Breton Highlanders Association website in their history section. I hope it clears it up :)

    Motto: Siol Na Fear Fearail

    March Pass: The Highland Laddie

2nd Bn Nova Scotia Highlanders (Cape Breton)

    Tartan: MacDonald, Clan Donald
    Motto: Siol Na Fear Fearail

    Thanks Robert :D

As for the pictures, what era? Current? WW1? etc?
Let me know & maybe I can assist on some of these -- some vintage ones I've posted through out the Vintage Kilts photo thread, but would be happy to post some here too.

    I don't really know
I think it's just a question of being able to put a "face" on a name when we hear it... or the other way around, being able to recognise a Regiment at first sight. I would just love to be able to do that.

    Best,

    Robert,
I just posted this on The Tartan Place forum. Hope it helps. As well, the Prince Edward Island Regiment maintains a small museum at the local armouries. You should be able to track them down through the DND website.
    Karl

The Prince Edward Island Highlanders is (was) another. This excerpt is from the National Defence website on Unit histories...

"Shortly after Prince Edward Island joined Confederation in 1873, the Canada Militia Act of 1875 reorganized all Militia units.
The forerunner of The Prince Edward Island Regiment was born, under the name of 82nd Queens County Provisional Battalion of Infantry. This Regiment sent a contingent of volunteers to the Boer War in 1899, earning the Regiment's first Battle Honour, South Africa.
The Prince Edward Island Regiment is a direct descendant of the Prince Edward Island Light Horse formed in 1901. During the Great War, the Prince Edward Island Light Horse helped to form part of the 6th Canadian Mounted Rifles, Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF). An Infantry Battalion, the 105th Prince Edward Island Highlanders, CEF, was recruited from the 82nd Regiment. The 105th was broken up in order to provide reinforcements for other CEF battalions already at the front, primarily the 26th New Brunswick Battalion. First War Artillery units serving on the front recruited on Prince Edward Island were the 2nd Siege and the 8th Siege Batteries. First War battle honours earned by Islanders were Arras 1917, Amiens, and Pursuit to Mons.
In 1921, The 82nd Regiment became known as The Prince Edward Island Regiment, and in 1927 they were converted to the Prince Edward Island Highlanders with a close affiliation to the Black Watch, of the British Army."

And this bit is from Wikipedia...

"The Prince Edward Island Highlanders were allied to the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) and were kitted as Black Watch except for badges. Officers wore grey Balmorals in Service Dress and Battle Dress."

Pedant hat on: The Tartan is 'Elcho' which is a styalised version of Hodden Grey in colour and which is the same as the tartan used by the London Scottish. Pedant Hat off.

Thanks very much for this interesting info. Do you know how many of them are still serving? How do the Canadians manage when the British Army only has three active Scottish Line Infantry Regiments. The 5 Regular and 2 Territorial Battalions of the The Royal Regiment of Scotland, the London Scottish at company strength and the Liverpool Scottish as platoon strength (although they supply a lot of the soldiers for the non-LS Platoons in the Company).

The Highlander is quite a good North American magazine, in fact about the best one going in my opinion. I've been hoping that despite the non-glossy format they have lots of readers and will keep getting more. Selfish reasons: I want them to stay on the market. My local mag store was somewhat reluctant to stock them, I believe because of the non-glossy covers, but now they report they sell out early.
