I would love to make it to this one. It would be my first big games. Plus my clan president is a fixture.

Tarps. Big ones. Lots of rope and bungee cords to hold them up.

The camping experience at Grandfather is a huge part of why I go. Try to arrive Wednesday if possible, because you'll have a better site selection and can spread out a bit more. Late arrivals take the fill-in spots. If you play an instrument bring it. There is always a chance for a session.

Try to arrive by noon. It often rains late in the afternoon and it's no fun to set up in the rain.

Odd that the GMHG website should go down shortly after posting this topic. Information coming about the 2012 games, maybe? One can only hope.

So tonight at a Christmas party, I won a door prize which consisted of a tent and other various camping supplies. I guess that's a sign I should plan on camping for the games!

It looks like Michele and I will attend this year. Google says its about an 8 hour drive down to Grandfather mountain from Montgomery Village, our home just outside Washington DC, and it looks like quite a scenic trip. Any suggestions from the rabble on where to stay, etc? Camping is not an option. At this point in our lives, we both value the creature comforts a little to much for that.

My wife, Stephanie and I shall definitely be there on Friday and Saturday, departing early Sunday morning for home. We are concluding our 2012 summer holiday to eastern North Carolina and the Outer Banks (Stephanie and I once lived there whilst serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. We were both stationed at MCB Camp Lejeune, NC), at Grandfather Mountain. Stephanie and I are sincerely looking forward to meeting many of you!

P.S. - Any suggestions on where to stay for two nights, whilst attending the games, and when to book? We have not begun our 'lodging research' yet for the Grandfather Mountain area.

    Slainte mhath,

Went through Lejeune (Camp Geiger) in Infantry Training Regiment in 1968. Maybe we should have a kilted Marine gathering!

Yes, sounds good to me! My wife did her Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Geiger. I was a 'Holywood' Marine, so I did my combat training at Camp Pendleton, though my first, and main duty station was Camp Lejeune (Jacksonville, NC). I did not like California one bit, and preferred eastern North Carolina.:)

    Semper Fi!
