I'm thinking a solid or camo kilt...in a modern fabric...likely a hemp RK or maybe a camo FK
military web belt,
web sporran strap
nightstalker sporran
the aformentioned Keen shoes
sgian would have to be that combo pen/led light/flash drive thing
maybe one of those leather kilt jackets Jerry has on the go
but what about shirt? sox? flashes? waistcoat? tie? headwear?
Hi Cloves
Want to look smart as well as Modern, best to be a nice casual maybe something like this:
http://www.kilts.org/index.php?optio...id=86&Itemid=2
I have always though that simple is smart, having hose, flashes shoes and sporrans don't for me go with a modern style kilt, however a Jacobite shirt boots and rolled down hose looks good to me.
All the same people do have differences and will disagree with me, but then again some will.
We all have our favorite ways of wearing our Kilts and Accessories.
As long as you are having fun and enjoying the freedom that's all that matters.
Regards all
Richard

I wear sandals and kilt hose frequently !!

Not only am I a goober, but I have been to Mt. Airy, North Carolina. :) Drive south on the Andy Griffith Parkway, keep going for a couple of hundred miles, and you'll find my home town.
The short version is that I dress my feet for health and comfort. The assembled rabble are usually too well-bred to call me names, even when it comes to oatmeal hose and black sandals. With dark hose, I would not hesitate; but then I wear black socks and black sandals to church, too. Right now I'm wearing khaki troosers, ragg wool socks, and Chaco sandals; which may be a marginally better combination than the kilt...

Great point. From Utilikilt customers' top 100 reasons to wear a kilt:
#3 You can call Punks conformists.

I can't wait for that shirt McMurdo!!
Union Richard...i too think jacobite shirts can look modern as well. Agreed, it's definately their simplicity that makes it work.

Maybe I should rephrase my original question about the perfect 'modern' kilt outfit.
Has anybody watched "Serenity" or "Firefly?" It's western styled...but in space.
So maybe I should have said, "what would make the perfect "post-apocalyptic" kilt outfit?" For instance....if I were wearing a kilt on the set of...uhm...Mad Max, what else would I need to complete my outfit?

A mutated human waste-case in a vehicle made out of scrapmetal?
-
Black Jansport fanny pack...*nod-nod*...Makes a great "modern sporran" for ten stupid bucks at REI or Big 5 sports.
On the other hand, maybe a "modern kilt" should have pockets. Hmmmmm. I might have to think on how to add aftermarket inside pockets to this X-Kilt.

Dammit. I wanted to see if someone would call me out for saying embrace your inner freak and wear what you want, but don't do the following...
All I got was a light mocking.
I have certain prohibitions in life. I don't eat organs of any sort, I don't gamble or drink anything alcoholic that is neon colored, or has a magical, violent or sexual name. Formerly, I wouldn't wear sandals with socks under any circumstances. But my wife is asian and after a while it just becomes sort of normal to put the flip flops on over the socks to go out to the car or something like that.
