Palate of Kilts
I'm now the proud owner of a traditional kilt
Front
Back
Thanks Matt!
Whilst the bright red wouldn't be a colour I normally wear, I tend to be a black, blue or green kind of guy, I think it works with the kilt (and was probably more to do with some deep-seated fear of wearing bright colours or something - anyone got a couch I can borrow?)
It got me to thinking, what colours are most commonly found amongst kilt wearers. That is, what the most common predominant colour of kilt. Obviously I'd classify my kilt as red. What about the rest of you guys. If you own more than one put down your favourite or just take the colour of kilt that most shows up in your collection.
Now, I've just got to match some hose and get myself and belt, buckle and sporran...

Thanks Gman, but to press the point, is any colour predominant in your collection? Red, Blue, Green?

Sorry, I guess I misread the post. I do like the muted Reds in my Maple Leaf and most of my other tartans have blues (like my Co Fermanagh) and mild greens. Most of my collection tends to be darker, and looking for more tartans I seem to go with the darker, not so bright or flashy colors. Just my own preference.

Galant, since mine appear "under the lights", I have a full range of tartans and solids. I wear what matches with the shirt/jersey that I'm wearing. In Philadelphia, I wear a solid green with an Eagles Jersey. In Boston and Pittsburgh, I wear the "Loud McLeod" (MacLeod Lewis - yellow). With the Irish Shirts, I wear the Irish National. That "Guinness" kilt is for the DEEPEST of Irish pubs. I own reds, blues, greens, tartans, solids and it will only get worse.
My PREFERENCE is to wear green tartans, but there aren't that many that I truly like. That's the beauty of UtiliKilt's Workman's Kilts in caramel, and any other in solid black. The daggum things will go with anything!

Hi Galant,
I am pretty much with Jimmy on this one. As I have added to my Kilt Kollection I have tended to "go next for something different; something in contrast to what I already have"! My first tartan kilt was (and still very much is) in my Clan tartan - Gunn. Not liking the modern colours very much, however, I opted for the Ancient colours (basically green). I have the same tartan in Weathered colours (soft brown), Maple Leaf (bright red), Buchanan Weathered (multicoloured), Nithsdale Regional (Red/Green), MacIntosh Ancient Hunting (brightish green), Tartan Army (Blues), Kinloch Anderson Corporate (Brown/Navy), Kinloch Anderson Hunting (Green/Blue) and City of Edinburgh (Grey). My solid colour kilts run across the colour spectrum from Black to White, with almost everything in between.
I like, and would willingly wear, virtually any tartan, but I cannot get very excited about the many Bottle-Green/Navy Blue based ones (of which there are so many), perhaps because there ARE so many of them!

I really love the lighter colors in my Ancient Douglas traditional, the slate blue is simply lovely. Though I do enjoy the darker modern colors for winter wear.
