FedEx employee
One of my customers has an account with FedEx and asked that I ship the kilts via FedEx on account.
I enter the shop with the finished kilts all boxed up (Nice order, two denim and two black leather) . Two people behind the counter, the female greats me "Good Day Sir" The gentlemen cuts in and says "Don't call him Sir, He's wearing a skirt!"
I had noticed upon entering the shop that his hair had the tell tale signs of being freshly dyed (He's in his fifties) So my reply to him was and "You dyed your hair" ... Shut him up.
When I finished shipping the package and on my way out the female wished me a good day and also remarked, "I'm sure you will be a lot cooler than me." I replyed with a chuckle "That's true and I'll be very comfortable as well. The man shrunk even more behind the counter.

Talk about wonderful customer service...
way to shut him up

What an idiot. I'm glad you stayed calm and gave him a good zinger. Good for you.

I've never heard of such rudeness to a customer, he should be sacked! He certainly has issues he needs to deal with!

I am perplexed why the "gentleman" responded the way he did? I certainly hope that he was having a rotten horrible no good day, but I must admit that you handled yourself very well, and I congratulate you on that Robert.

You were nicer than I'd have been. I'd have asked to speak with his supervisor, and Lord help him if he was the site supervisor, cause I'd have gone over his head.
At the very least, he'd have gotten a verbal reprimand, preferably in my presence.
Good zingers though. Wonder if he thinks he's fooling anyone with his Just For Men hair dye?
BTW, in case anyone thinks I'm being too hard on the jerk, look at it my way a moment. Strangers on a public street have their rights to opinions, and may express those opinions regardless of how stupid they might be. However, people on their jobs have to deal with customers. Insulting customers leads them to use competing companies. If the jackass would insult me without knowing me, or anything about me, he'd do it to other customers. Upper Management of a large company like FedEx would want to know about such lapses of judgement. On a guess, that comment probably violated at least three or four different Standard Operating Procedures set by FedEx. Not only does the jerk need to learn on the job manners, as well as general good manners, but his employers deserve to know how he treats customers. I will tolerate a lot of rudeness without going ballistic, but I will not tolerate rudeness from someone being paid to serve me.
Thank you for looking at it through my eyes for a moment. Now feel free to make up your own minds.

I agree with Doc.
I work in a customer service related business and come across people from all walks of life. Though I may not agree with their lifestyle choice, if I made a comment upon it I could expect to not have a job Monday morning.
No matter where you go, you should expect some level of courtesy and professionalism from the people who work there.
I think you handled the situation well, though. You reminded him that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

As someone with prior connections to FedEx, this kinda' concerns me. I've passed the link to this page on to someone in management, telling them to pass it on to "whom it may concern".
