Whole New Perspective

Last week I ordered my first traditional Scottish kilt. Now I have been wearing casual kilts for over two years now (not daily), but this is my first handsewn heavy wool kilt. I decided to go with Scottishkilts.net as they have done such a fine job with my jacket, and in answering all my questions. Kiltstore.net was a definite runner up, as they too were very helpful about their products.

Well, yesterday at 5 pm the kilt, hose, and flashes showed up at my door. The kilt is a handsewn 16 oz -8 yard kilt in Ancient Watson tartan.

I ripped open the package and immediately tried on the kilt. First thought was at how heavy this kilt was compared to the PV kilts I am used to. Second thought was that I choose the right tartan, as I love the look of it in person. After I made sure the kilt fit right I took it upstairs and took out the basting stitches and tried it on properly. This kilt is a thing of beauty!!!! The pleating is outstanding, and the feel and fit are extremely comfortable. I will need to get used to wearing anything that high up on my torso though (my only complaint so far, but one that was expected).

I had to try on the kilt with my waistcoat and jacket. What a difference! With the hipster style PV kilts, the white of the shirt is sometimes seen under the waistcoat. Not with this baby.....It just makes everything seems more complete and cleaner.

Considering the 9 day turnaround time it took to get the kilt to my door, I was a little worried about the quality of the kilt. This was easily put to rest upon viewing the kilt. The pleating is beautiful, the craftsmanship is top notch, the weight is perfect, and the overall look and feel of the kilt has left me as one satisfied customer.

Would I reccomend Scottishkilts as a vendor? Yes, I would highly recommend them
Would I order from them in the future? Yes, the dress sporran is tempting me right now
Am I happy with the product? Most definitely
Am I happy with the customer service? Yes, they continually went above and beyond to make sure I was imformed and pleased

I am sure I will get some pics of the new kilt in the coming week, so I will post those when I have them.

Congrats on the new kilt. I know what you mean about the traditional fit. My first kilt was a Utilikilt.It's the only one I have that wears low on the hips.I like the traditional fit far more.

The weight is something isn't it? It was the first thing I noticed when trying on a Black Watch kilt for my buddy's wedding. I think you'll also appreciate the difference in the movement (swish) of the pleats as you walk compared to a PV kilt.

I was going to ask that myself, but decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth. From what I can gather they had extra staff on through the past few weekedns to meet the Christmas rush.

Carry on then! I'm glad you're groovin' to the 16oz tartan beat: just as some people will only have full weight, full length tartan kilts, there are some people who can't see the value in a traditional and will never own one.

Bryan...it appears that you're like most of us-somewhere (happily) in the middle...congrats...

Colin, I love the tartan, so colourful!! and such service! I'm sure you'll love wearing the kilt higher, I don't know how anyone finds hipster kilts comfortable personally, guess I'm old fashioned.

The kilt will be nice and warm since you're all in winter.
