    tell me about the failures

Okay you guys....all I hear about is the success stories - "I had my friend try on a kilt and he became addicted and now he has 15 of them"

Have you ever had a guy try on a kilt and OTHER THAN NOT HAVING THE GUTS TO WEAR ONE honestly told you it just didn't feel good?

    I'm just curious.

I don't know if this counts but my 16 year old son simply refuses to even try one on, not even as a father/son thing. Personally, I consider this a failure.

Heck, I wish I had a story about even getting somebody else to wear a kilt!

Oh wait, when I attended the Gatlinburg Highland Games, an old friend of my Dad's, and a good friend of the family overall, lives in outside Gatlinburg and I lent him a SK I had that was too large for me. He wore it with pride to the Games, and enjoyed himselg, despite being rained out on Saturday afternoon.

Sorry though, not a failure story, although I doubt that he has worn one again, despite talking to Matt while there about a kilt, and he being a Robertson and vey proud of his heritage!

I've suggested to several people I know that if they were at all interested, I could get them headed in the right direction. Not a chance though. Where family members and friends have become used to seeing me wear a number of diffrent kilts, I've had no luck in generating any interest n the part of others. There is still an extremely large population of men that believe the kilt to be a just fanciful bit of cross dressing. I guess they just don't have the grapes for it. Ignorance, as they say, is bliss.

Without me even mentioning anything about it, my Aunt (Dad's half sister) asked if I had an extra kilt that her husband could wear when they come up from Abq for the Long's Peak Games in Estes Park, CO. Just happen to have a Stillwater BlackWatch Heavyweight that would work for him

    Semi failure

While all the men I know that have taken up scottish country dancing quickly get hold of a kilt and wear it to all events, there is one 35-year old here that needs encouragement to get kilted. He acquired a prefect second-hand item, just his size, but still says he feels more comfortable in shorts.

Chris, don't think of this as a failure. Your son is 16! At this time in his life young men are trying to fit in, not stand out. Give him time to mature and continue to be a positive role model.

As to the failures... I've met many men that admire kilts but under no circumstance would wear them. I (IMHO) attribute this response to
social pressure and lack of self-confidence.

Hopefully once there are thousands of us walking the streets the guys who are bashful about this will take the plunge. As we have said before, these things need to reach a certain "popularity level" before some people are ready to take the plunge.

I surprised myself by getting into it this early but I am going to get myself out there so as many people as possible will see me here in Phoenix. It can only help....and I have seen people doing a double-take when I'm walking down the street. Maybe they will go home, Google "kilts" and get an education.
