Two Generations One Kilt
I just found this photo of my Dad in the kilt that he gave me and thought I would share it with you, it is also fitting with all he recent posts about kilted scouting:

Here I am with the same kilt and Sporran 50 odd years later.

That is too cool! Great that you were able to accept, and wear, the hand me down.
The kilt concealed a blaster strapped to his thigh. Lazarus Long

Has nobody else noticed that Glen's dad is like 13 in the photo and Glen is almost 43? Evem if I still had the powder blue polyester leisure suit that I wore when I was 13 I don't think it would fit me now 30 years on! Except maybe on the inseam.

Almost 43 I am not almost 43, and man that kilt is a tight squeeze these days, thats why Pete has it to replace the straps and buckles. I am re-touching the photo of Dad to frame and give to him on Sunday for Father's Day.

You're closer to 43 than 37 an you're older than me. hell I keep calling Robert at RKilts geezer. Good idea about the gift of the photo. We did the same a number of years ago. Got an old navy photo of him, found an old postcard of one of his ships (HMS Leander) off of ebay and along with his medals in a shadow box. It made a nice (IMHO) presentation and I think he enjoyed it immensely. Last birthday for my dad we researched my grandfathers war record (WWI) and was able to download his medal record. We ordered replica medals from England (the original medals, he sold long ago when my dad was very small). Again in a presentation box on a Union flag background with a Royal field Artillery cap badge (again ebay) and an engraved plate including name, rank (in the original spelling, Sarjant) and serial number.
Why not see if pete has any Graham of Menouth tartan hanging about for a border (and colour).
Below for those interested is granddad medal card downloaded from National Archives in Kew Gardens.

Wow, four years of fighting in mud and blood and only three medals!

The Kilt is a timeless garment I have always believed. This just proves it. Thanks for sharing.

Harking back to a post about cheap kilts, I think this demonstrates the difference between a cheapo and a properly made kilt very well. I wear my father-in-law's 50-60 year old kilt and it is as good, and possibly better, than new as is yours obviously. I share the waistline problem but alterations are something else a proper kilt can handle.
