XMTS Sponsor for the Month of October- Freedom Kilts!
The Moderating Staff and owner of X Marks the Scot.com would like to congratulate and thank our valued October Sponsor of the Month…
Freedom Kilts!
www.freedomkilts.com
Steve Ashton always wanted to wear a kilt but had felt he lacked the necessary heritage to wear one. Intrigued and inspired by the innovations that were happening with 21st Century Kilts Steve decided to create his own. Steve wasn’t trained as a tailor, but he was an engineer. As such he had the attention to detail and determination (read: stubbornness) to build a better mousetrap. After some trial and error (and a lot of coffee) he had created himself a handsome and well made garment he dubbed a “contemporary kilt”.
Steve started Freedom Kilts in May of 2004 and his engineering background, curiosity, and desire to learn have resulted in one of the broadest lines available to the kilt wearer.
While many companies offer either “traditional” or “contemporary” kilts, Freedom Kilts has blurred the lines that separate them. The Freedom Kilts model line includes rugged contemporary kilts, traditional styled kilts made of modern materials, and even traditional wool tartan kilts with surprising features like hidden pockets.
Using the Custom Kilt Wizard feature on Freedom Kilts’ online shop you can design the exact kilt you want. The program takes you step by step through the models, colors, materials, details, and features to build a unique kilt.
In addition, Freedom Kilts offers a full line of kilt accessories (including custom made kilt hose on a vintage knitting machine).
Steve has been on X Marks the Scot since the very beginning of our site and we would like to thank him and the employees of Freedom Kilts for their support over the years. We encourage our membership to take a moment to visit the Freedom Kilts online store and better familiarize themselves with his unique product line.
Thanks Steve!

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Here's to Mr. Ashton - a tireless worker in all things kilted. Always willing to educate the uninformed and raise the general level of kilted knowledge, Steve is one of our XMarks' living international treasures.
Steve is both a gentleman and a scholar.
Hey Steve - do I get my discount now?
Cheers!

As the proud owner of two Freedom kilts (I'm still thinking about a 'Pink Death' camo!), I can vouch for the high quality of Steve's work and the value of all the time, energy and expertise he gives freely to X Markers and, I am sure, others.
Lang may yer lum reek, Steve.
Take care,
Ham.

After having the pleasure of Steve's company at one of our Denver Kilt Nights and getting to see a few of his kilts, I've had one at the top of my list. Well, with this run of the XMarks tartan, I'm getting mine We got to see all of the styles he was making and I must say they do look like an engineer made them. No, that's not a bad thing, they are very well made.
Congrats Steve!!

Four kilts, three kilt shirts, three pair of Heritage Hose. Any doubt as to where I shop? A well deserved honour.

One Freedom kilt (and one on order). My Grey from Steve is the best-fitting and most comfortable of the twenty-odd I have in my closet. It's not leather, but "is that leather?" is the most frequent question asked. My guess is that I will be ordering again from Steve when I visit him in Victoria tomorrow.
