UK Royal Mint R. Burns Issue
I noticed today whilst on the royal mint site, they have issued a special 2 pounds coin in celebration of Robert Burns 2009. The back is inscribed with a quote from Auld Land Syne. A nice souvenir for Burns fans. Fairly priced at royalmint.com.

I didn't see this thread until just now. That's a sharp looking coin and since I will be making my third Burnsian pilgrimage to Scotland in January I think I'll add this one the holiday wish list my sister has been bugging me for.
Thanks for the link.

That's so cool! I'd love to own one.
The fear o' hell's the hangman's whip To laud the wretch in order; But where ye feel your honor grip, Let that aye be your border. - Robert Burns

Every sporran should have one....off to investigate further.

You know, I was all excited about carrying the coin in my sporran, until I saw the Queen's face on the coin. I think it would have been better if it had a portrait of Burns himself. Sorry, MHO.

ME TOO!!!
I agree, a VERY poor choice for the other side of the coin. SHOULD have been Burns...no offense to the Queen...
Brought about the same change of heart in me.

I don't think the Queen would allow it somehow. Does it really matter that much? The coin will probably come into circulation 2009, but in the meantime you can order it from the Royal Mint.

I think as a legal tender coin it must bear the image of the sovereign. Not her decision. Coin experts out there?
