Kilted Violin Photos!
Hello all,
Wasn't sure where to post this, but general is best I suppose. (as I had two issues)
1. Most of us wear kilts and like celtic music! how many do play their violin in a kilt? Post your pics! I'm curious.
2. I've got a violin (no pictures yet) which belonged to my great-grandfather. Inside (took me ages to decipher) it says :
Remenvi Kiraly
Vu Dangszeresz
Budapest Kiraly Utgla 4/4
anyone knows more about this ?
Thank you for reading, posting and showing!
Daniel

Violin in kilt
I play in 2, sometimes 3 oldtime jams and at least once a week in bluegrass jams and allways wear a kilt. At one oldtime jam there was a visiting lady from Scotland, near Glascow who told me that the fiddle/violin was the most popular musical instrument in Scotland.
I only have one picture taken during a performance and in that, I am playing a mandolin.

Here is a vintage photo.
The lad's name is Crevier. I am directly related to this Canadian family.

As to your other question, the only thing I can add is that I believe the 4/4 relates to the size of the violin, that it is a full size violin. 3/4 scale violins are made for children.

Now, I don't speak Hungarian, but was couple of times there. First line is the name (the man who made the violin?). Second line I really don't know. The third row is address. Although it should be Utca and not Utgla, I guess. Budapest is a capitol city.
Sorry, can't help more.

I tried Google, and I think it says Remenyi (y instead of v)
May be quite an instrument you have. Please let us know what you find out about the violin
Link to the history http://www.remenyi.com/rhm/history.html
I would contact the store and send them pictures to see if they can ID it.
