Thanks, Rathdown. I didn't know Peter had any plans to retire.

Nor did anyone else. The email announcement arrived yesterday, quite out of the blue. So that's three new pursuivants and a new king of arms all within the space of a year. Positively makes one's head swim.

You guys have really made interesting the whole panolpy of arms, the court of Lord Lyon and now this one. Had to look him up as I did not even know the appointment existed. found a good(?) explanation here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slains_Pursuivant

    Thaks,

I had quite the chuckle out of the Wikipedia entry, in part:

"Slains Pursuivant of Arms is a private officer of arms appointed by the Chief of the Name and Arms of Hay – presently the Earl of Erroll, Lord High Constable of Scotland. It is believed that the Hay family had an officer of arms since the time that the office of Lord High Constable was forfeited by the Comyn family and passed to the Hays."

As it happens, my wife is Comyn and we've had a number of friendly discussions over the actions of Robert the Bruce with respect to Clan Comyn, and the giving over of Comyn property and chattel to Hay among others.
