My experience buying a sporran from Henderson's.
Good morning all!
I just wanted to pass along my comments on my recent purchase of a sporran from Hederson's. (http://www.hendersongroupltd.com)
I recently decided I needed this L&M sporran:

I started looking looking around for the best price among merchants who carry L&M products. Henderson's had the best price advertised, so I called them up to confirm. I spoke to a very nice lady by the name of Lorna, who confirmed that the price advertised was, indeed, correct. I placed the order for the sporran and a sporran chain.
The next morning, I had an e-mail from Lorna advising me that the Sprran came with a chain, and asked if I really wanted a second chain. This inquiry saved me a few more dollars, for which I was very grateful. Most merchants would simply fill the order and count it good business; but Lorna went out of her way (and reduced her profits!) to look out for a customer's interests.
Lorna told me that the sporran would be ordered from L&M and I could expect delivery in 4 weeks or so. After six weeks, I e-mailed for a status. After two days without a reply, I called and again spoke to Lorna. She was very apologetic, and said the sporran had not yet been received from L&M. She said she would follow-up with them and get back to me. Two days later, I got an e-mail from Lorna; L&M had shipped the sporran and I could expect to receive it the following week. Sure enough, the following Tuesday, I received the box from Henderson's.
I'm very pleased with the sporran. It's a trifle smaller than I expected, but sufficient for my needs. The materials and workmanship are of a very high quality.
So, overall I'd say the experience was very positive. Delivery did take longer than I was told to expect, but I am convinced that it was not Henderson's fault. There was a delay in reponding to my e-mail, but Lorna was unfailingly polite and helpful when I contacted her.
I would definitely recommend both the sporran and Henderson's as a supplier!

They're a good place for bagpipe parts and accessories.

As a newbie piper, I've discovered Henderson's excellent service for piping supplies. I just got a Bag-Piper Case delivered as promised before leaving on vacation. We'll be in northern Michigan. I may be able to stop and see them.

I agree, it sounds like the delay was at L&M. I usually avoid middlemen, but there are exceptions when quality vendors only sell through middlemen. L&M is an example for sure. Recently ordered a $300 custom designed (okay off their designer thingie) sporran through Scottish Tartans Museum. Got the promised 4 week delivery.
Use STM for Lewis kilt hose too. Another quality vendor that doesn't sell direct.
Direct or middlemen, remember, you can have any two of price, quality, or service.
And a great price isn't a great price if the product is falsly advertised or not available.
Sounds like a positive experience for you though.

A great majorty of companys in the world only sell as wholesale, so avoiding it would be almost impossible. And don't be too quick to blame the delay on L&M. There may have been mail problems, either through a courier company, Canada Post or even US Post. And of course don't forget customs. Without all the facts don't judge too quick.

Quite a beautiful sporran, glad you had such a good experience ordering it!

Understand about wholesale only, have worked for such companies and sold to wholesalers.
Not blaiming L&M. The original post documents that the delay was at L&M and once L&M shipped the sporran was received within expected shipping times.

I bought directly from L&M's closeout page once (I'm not sure if they still have such a thing). They were quite speedy and responded quickly when I had a question on the backside.

Too often we are quick to voice disappointing service and slow to recognize excellent service. Good on your for your post here.
Henderson's has been excellent in the service and products as well as always being glad to offer whatever help when a question arises. I have done much business with them and it is always done in a professional manner. I highly recomend them also.
