Kilted at the comic book store.

So, last Sunday I thought it was a good day to wear the kilt in public. Me, my brother and a friend of ours went to play some Magic. What better place than the comic book store? I was right. Groups of various nerds ( like MYSELF! ) playing Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, Yu Gi Oh (did i spell that right?) all gathered en masse. Then there's me. Guess who stood about among his kind?

Got a few questions from 1 guy about my heritage.

    "You Irish?"

    "Yep. Scottish, too."

    "Any Indian (Native American)?"

    "Why?"

"If there was I could call you a skirt wearing buffalo chaser!"
(Can't remember exactly what the line was, but it was along those lines.)

"Wow. You managed to offend me and my brother here."
(he was standing next to me.)

When we finally found an open table a group of kids (13 and 14 year olds) that we seem to have taken under our wing at this store came by. After a few hands just me, my brother and our friend, we joined the 5 of them for some larger games in an upper level.

On the second level a D&D group was gathered, mix of male and female ( as a gamer i was SHOCKED to see women playing d&d. I thought they were a myth like Santa and the Easter Bunny. Just kidding. ) Got some looks and stares from the ladies. Nobody asked the question. Thank God.

The only question came from the impressionable youths at our table -
"Dude, why are you wearing a kilt?"

    "Comfort."

    "Seriously?"

    "And my heritage."

One kid tried to use "skirt" comments to rile me but I remembered he was 13 and I'd been playing that game since he was a gleam in his father's eye. Man, I feel old. And I'm only 28 (until Tuesday.)

Awesome. Every once in a while I get the jones for a good game of Magic, but I haven't collected since ummmm...... Alliances? Yeah, it's been a while. I don't know anybody that plays anymore, so I'm kinda out of luck anyway. Good to hear you've got an active community up that way. (A good D&D game would be fantastic, too, but again, no group in the area. *sigh* What's a gamer to do?)

I hit the comic and game stores around here in my kilt all the time.

usually only get some good natured questions.

As for women gamers half of my Saturday group are women.
    and i always game kilted.

as for finding groups for DnD i suggest rpg.net or nearbygamers.net both have adds and profiles to find some gamers.

I need to get back into gaming. I used to have one wicked Glitter Boy character. (Rifts, if you've never played it.)
