    Toronto night out

I'm in Toronto this week on business and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good pub, grille, etc. for dinner.

I did a little searching on the forum and saw mention of the Elephant and Castle and Wolf and Firkin. Any other notable establishments I should visit while up here?

I work during the day, otherwise I'd be looking for outdoor hikes and siteseeing. Besides it's pretty rainy here this week. Although I was thinking about Horseshoe Falls if that seems a viable after work excursion. Mostly I will just have evenings Tues, Wed and Thurs.

I did bring along my USAK casual but I don't think I'll venture out alone.

Do not have ready access to a computer to check any responses but I'll check in now and again as time permits.

    Thanks in advance

Sorry I'm in North Carolina this week, the Horseshoe falls are a day trip, they are about 2 hours away so if I were you I'd do those on the weekend. As to a pub I'd say it all depends on where in Toronto you are but thje best thing to do I'd think is to do a google search for a pub within walking distance from your hotel. Perhaps a trip to the CN Tower would be an idea, or the ROM which has the Ten Commandments and the dead sea scrolls on display.

Besides the Elephant and Castle where we had a nice kilt night a couple months ago during our visit, my wife and I also took in Pogue Mahone (a bastardized version of the gaelic pog ma thon for those who speak gaelic), a purported Irish pub only a couple blocks from the Elephant and Castle. At least the waitresses there wear something remotely resembling a kilt, and the food was pretty good.

Sorry, I too was there on business, and other than dinners did not get out at all during my trip, so I cannot help wyou with the "what to do, what to see" list.

Looking up pubs in the Toronto phone book I found Up Your Kilt Pub & Club, 284 Orenda Rd. And on a Mississauga promo map I found Cuchulainn's Irish Pub, 158 Queen St. at Streetsville, The Village in the City, Mississauga. Are either of these recomended?

Hmmm ... well, I think it's too late for a last minute kilt night (though I've been known to be wrong )
I'll leave the recommendations to the Ontarioans, and just extend my welcome to the Not-Quite-Frozen North.

The Royal family are in town. They are opening the Royal Winter Fair on Friday. I mean Charles and Camilla.

They are also presenting New Colours to the Royal Regiment of Canada and the Toronto Scottish Regiment at 5pm on November 5th at Varsity stadium. Should be quite the event.

I think that you need tickets for the Colours presentation, but they might be available somehow.

    Cheers,
    Bill

Be sure to check out what's happening in music, art exhibits, whatever you most enjoy. For one, the Toronto Symphony is very well regarded.

Last (only) time I was in Toronto, Alicia de Larrocha was giving a piano recital. As it turned out it was my last chance to hear her live.

I don't get to the big cities too often---and I'd never complain about the opportunities here, believe it or not---but many times I've happened on a stellar performance, exhibit, ballet... just because I took the time to check.
