    Your help please.

    Hi All!

My better half and I were talking about my next kilt which I'm contemplating having done in the Stuart of Bute since there are family ties to it. Her comment was "I wish I could see the tartan made into a kilt before you do it."

So that brings me to you all. Has anyone a kilt made from the Stuart of Bute Tartan or know where I may find a picture of same made into a kilt? This is the kind of stuff I find hard to do now days so I need an assist please.

The grand part of this is ~I get a new KILT!!!~ It's kind of a combination Christmas/Birthday thing as I was born on the 2nd of January.

    Thanks for your help!

is it just me or are the cuffs on the second jacket rather long, not to hijack, just seemed odd that a fashion website would have an ill fitted jacket in a picture

The young gent in the second picture is wearing his "traditional" kit in the contemporary manner of today. The cuffs are to the joint of the thumb and the kilt is on the lower side of the knee. This goes with the more modern shirt, tie, and hose combination. The first picture has the kit in the more traditional manner of wearing it.

Funny, I was thinking the opposite, that the sleeves in the top picture were too short!

I'm used to seeing the longer sleeves with Highland dress for two reasons
    1) the Army usually has their sleeves rather long
    2) as a piper, I want my sleeves long so that they don't look too short when I'm actually playing the pipes

But yes, the 2nd guy's sleeves are a tiny bit long, and his hose are definately too high.

    Some photos showing longish sleeves:

OCR, I understand about having ones sleeves longer to accommodate the bent arm position while playing the pipes. Sonny Bono once did a funny routine in which he described his suit as a "sit down suit" in that it was tailored to look good on camera while he was seated- longer sleeves, longer trousers. And when he stood up, everything flopped about a foot. BUT, I have to believe that the young gent in the second photograph is poorly served by all of that length. OK, the length of his kilt may only coincidentally be "too long" exactly as much as he ought to pull it up, but his sleeves will be all in his food if he tries to eat. He looks a little bit slight in the shoulders, too, as if maybe they just gave him the wrong jacket.

In these parts, it is not unusual to see young persons wearing sweaters and knit shirts with the sleeves pulled down over the heels of their hands. Some people attribute this to immaturity and others blame "sloppy" fashion, but I have developed another theory. I believe people born after 1975 or so have a morbid fear of exposing their wrists and ankles, possibly brought on by subliminal messages in Schoolhouse Rock videos. This is why their trousers puddle over their shoes and even their shorts come to the floor. I am not sure what they are afraid of, but I suspect it is related to what earlier generations called "cooties".

My wife and I thank-you for the great pictures. The disscussion on style is always fun to read and is appreiciated too. Being a bit of a traditionalist myself the overly long sleeves and lower kilt sound a little sloppy. That being said I'll confess to being over the hill and not in tune with the fashion of youth. Let's face it I do well to get myself dressed some mornings let alone tell someone else how they should dress. LOL

If there are more pictures out there of the Stuart of Bute Tartan in action please share them.

    Thanks again!

The two I posted were the only ones I came across when I did an internet search for Stuart Bute Kilt using both google and bing image search functions. I did not try the search function here on the forum, and there may very well be a number of SoB (no pun intended) kilt photos in various folks galleries, so you might try that route if you get a few moments.
