How about these boots with the Stewart Black kilt for a contemporary look.

I like them too.
Those are perfect, not to short or to high. I dig the tip stitching. But I think they'd be considered a wee more militant than contemporary.
where are they?

Nice boots but wouldn't know how they might look with a kilt until tried on with a kilt. I recently bought a pair of boots I thought I'd really like (I do) but they don't particularly look right to me with a kilt -- thought they would, but they just didn't "feel/look right" to me with the kilt. That's the only way I know of to make sure. What feels right to some may not to others and that's fine. If you are comfortable with them (both fit and looks), what else matters?
Rich, I'm not sure if you have a Big5 sporting goods in Reno. But I have seen boots very similar to these there for around $35-40. If anything maybe you could get kilted up and go try them them on for visual reference.
See the recent post about the "Tartan Army". Seems to me they'd fit well with their attire!
