And now, for something completely different(not really...)
It's a new sporran from Wyvern! New to the kilted brotherhood , then finding X Marks, which led me to Donnie at Wyvern. As I have gone "all in" (as is my pathology), there is a new kilt in the works, a sgian in development, but the sporran has landed. In a desire to respect tradition but find unique ways to express it, I was thinking of how to incorporate heritage-Irish-paternal, Scots-maternal, and Welsh-again, thanks mom, (the genetics for a good drinker and a fiery temperament), and what's going on in life. Currently the dominant item in the household are two large canines-see pics.
So, trying to put dogs and heritage in the blender and hitting pulse made me think of the Book of Kells. Took a great trip to Ireland-another bike trip, but spent some time in Dublin, had to go to Trinity. The Book-scribed by Scottish monks, initially under Colum Cille, decimated by Viking invaders, and moved to Kells, County Meath, Ireland. Googled "images for dogs Book of Kells" and got the hit with the citation. As it turns out, most likely incorrectly identified. More likely one of the stylized lions that dominate the imagery in the Book. (In the image, three triangular "pennants" at the neck, likely representing the mane. Had to get Brendan Meehan's book on the Book, images very consistent with the lion imagery.)
In any event, still liked the image, reminded of the trip, Dublin, dogs. Next came Donnie. If you compare the image to what ended up on the lid, I think it's pretty spectacular work.May not be for everyone, but it makes a lot of connections for me. Just need a kilt to display it now. Oh, patience....

Oops, sorry about the tiny size. You can still enlarge if you click the thumbnail and hit control and +(crtl+) on the keyboard. I'll work on this for next time I show pics.

He is indeed! And he will work with you to get your vision onto the sporran. I have two, one black and one brown, both custom, and both just what I was envisioning.
