    putting it on improperly

Spotted this past weekend at the Las Vegas Highland Games, two bandmates demonstrating the proper and improper wearing of the kilt

The way the fell is pulled into his posterior looks uncomfortable. Is he deliberately wearing the kilt that way?

It doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. It would bother me.

Interestingly a photo I've used in the past of kilts worn too low, the shirt showing in the gap between kilt and waistcoat, is the same band.

It's seen more with drummers than pipers, like here:

The Pipe Majors I've played under wouldn't have tolerated such stuff.

It would bother me. Not just the discomfort of a kilt about to fall down, but also turning out as a band member looking a total mess.

It’s not that difficult to put himself right.

Right, every band I've played in had a rule that as soon as you stepped foot on the Games venue you were representing the band and had to be properly attired.

    The Pipe Majors enforced this.

Aha! His kilt is on the loosest belt hole, and his stomach is larger than his pant waist. I don't think he could wear that kilt at the proper height if he wanted to. He needs kilt extender straps or a new kilt.

Wow what happened to his hose? (The rest of his uniform could use a bit of help as well.)

We the public are used to seeing a high degree of smartness, such as this:

He also looks half asleep. I wonder where it was taken?
    Surely it’s a set up.
