Scottish Television
With the demise of Monarch of the Glen, and with the Bill ending up in the gutter, there is little left for me to watch on TV.
However, the Glasgow series Taggart is being re-run here. I do like that show, no kilts to be seen, but Blythe Duff makes up for that, bit of a looker!
Nice accents, not too much violence or language.

Graham,
You simply amaze me! With all the stuff you do and being the posting machine here, you still have time to watch a wee bit of television. I'm tired just hearing about that.
Whew!

In the States, you can watch Mexican soaps in Spanish. Of course, I think the over-the-top drama of soaps is hilarious.

I think "as the world turns" is one that used to be on a very poorley acted american soap. was there another called the "bold and the beautiful"? that was very bad as well?
I remember "Tic tac dough" with Wink Martindale a quiz show so bad it was great, think the channel was UK living.

One of my college girlfriends used schedule her classes around Days of Our Lives. Evidently "Days" (as it was called), was a big thing: there would be 20 or 30 people in the TV room every afternoon pretending to study or do english assignments with their peepers glued to the tube.
Bryan...my tastes ran more along the lines of a UHF channel that played "Kung Fu Theatre" all night long...

For what it's worth...
I had a friend from Taiwan who stayed up watching king fu movies all night. She called them "Chinese Soap Operas."
Little did I know...

You know, it's really scary to realize the American tv to which the world has been exposed. No wonder there are such strange views of Americans. When my husband was about 17 & his family was stationed in Turkey with the U.S. Army, the local Turks wanted to know if he knew Hoss & Little Joe!
I hate to tell you this, Daz, but I believe those soaps are still going, tho' I don't think the game show is.
And what do you mean, "very poorly acted"? ;)

When I lived in England in 1987, there were people who were nervous to meet my mother, because they thought all Americans would be like the people on "Dallas"!
