MN Tartan
aloha!
I live in MN (Minneapolis, MN) and I know that MN has its own specialized state tartan, but I don't know where I can get it- all the shops in MN don't seem to stock it on their websites...I would like it in either 13oz or 16oz, but I guess 11oz would be alright if that is what is avaible. I would like to make a kilt dress-outfit with the MN tartan, black argyll and waistcoat (vest), matching hose and matching flashes with all the accesories.
1) Does anyone have a MN tartan kilt?
2) Where can you get the MN tartan?
thanks

I M Kilted,
According to the Minnesota Tartan website (which Dilrule provided a link to) the only cloth available is an 11 ounce material in the dress version of the tartan. You don't want a kilt made of this material. It is too light and has big white stripes. It is intended for ladies skirts and dresses.
By the way, I was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. I don't have a kilt in this tartan, but there is/was at least one member of this forum who does.

Email him. Matts email address is part of his profile here on this forum. I'd be nearly positive that he has the tartan available in several different weights. I've been to his store at the Tartans Museum and hwe has at least 6 different tartan books from the mills with which he deals.

Minnesota Tartan...
I know the designer of both Minnesota tartans, Mark Osweiler -- he also designed the Iowa and Iowa Dress tartans (see my avatar for the Iowa tartan) -- Here is some more information on both:
http://www.haggis-iowa.com/iowa_tartans.html
My advice would be to talk to Matt as well -- when I have my Iowa tartan kilt made, it will be through Matt. I like the idea of supporting someone who has given so much in regards to research and education to the Scottish-American community.
Cheers,
Todd
PS: Moved to "Heraldry and Tartans" sub-section.
