What to wear with a tab shirt?

Being that I am a minister now, I'd like to begin wearing tab shirts. However, the problem is what to wear with these clergy shirts. A Prince Charlie jacket seems overkill for everyday wear and I need something that goes well with the kilt. I considered a black suit jacket but they're too long.

Oh and I do have a kilt in the clergy tartan on order

I know we have a few other ministers on these boards and I'd like to hear what you all wear with your tab shirts and kilts.

What jacket would the clergy ordinarily wear? Argyll would be the natural choice. A nice sweater-vest might give that knowledgeable outward appearance with all the warmth of a jacket.

I think an Argyll would be fine, or any other kilt cut jacket for that matter. Depends on how formal or informal youre trying to be.

Normally a black suit jacket. But they're too long for a kilt. I suppose I could have one altered.

Aye, I didn't even consider the Argyll, I'll have to look into one.

That is the key - Go to a thrift store, or rental place and spend about $12.00 on a nice dark jacket, then go to a local tailor and with the great amount of info on this fourm, have it converted - - - you should be able to get it done for around $30.00! So you will end up with a very nice jacket for well less than $50.00.

Any regular sport jacket and most suit jackets can easily be converted to kilt wear!

Theres a lot of poeple in here who have done jacket conversions. I'm one of them. Search the DYI treads for jacket conversions, a nice jacket conversion in a dark color would look great, and a bit less dressy than an argyll for a casual setting. I've only worn my clergy shirts without jackets since its a bit warm over here mostly. That looks fine too

Yeah, found some good threads. I'm going to dig in and see what I can accomplish. Heh, Seattle weather is.. well.. unique. Here it is June and it's still cold and rainy.

I am no expert on clergy dress, or matters, but our vicar sometimes wears a kilt of his own clan's tartan (Marr) and a tweed Lovat green Argyll for everyday and for more formal events such as weddings and funerals a black barathea Argyll, with waistcoat, and with BLACK buttons.Very smart.

I have a black argyll jacket to wear with my clergy kilt and tabbed shirt (I am looking for a blue clergy shirt that matches the tartan shade and until then my wife says black looks better.) My personal thought is that a pc is too dressy for most of what I get invited to as a clergy...

I think a charcoal grey argyle would look quite sharp.
