Kommando Kilts

So, I'm in Flagstaff yesterday. Coming out of Burley Fish with my new tattoo a car pulled up next to me in the parking lot and a lady got out and looked at my leather kilt and asked if it was a Utilikilt. Told her it was. She said her husband has six kilts. Then her husband stuck his head out of the car window and asked if I'd ever heard of Kommando Kilts.

Told him no, I hadn't. He said they were like Utilikilts only less expensive. Today googled up the above company out of Oklahoma. Using the word Kommando on the search engine for this board didn't turn up any posts.

Its hard to tell for sure, but it looks like they don't put many pleats in the kilt and that the pleats reverse in the middle like with a Utilikilt, only the center pleat deal goes outside, rather than inside....if that makes any sense.

Website says they're new...more folks getting on the kilt bandwagon.

Price seems to be $125...but from what the website pics looklike if I had $125 for a kilt I think I might save up a bit longer for a better effort....like a Freedom Kilt.

Anyone on the board own a Kommando Kilt or did the search engine miss any threads?

If they have a store, I'll head out there and check it out. I've never heard of them before, but with them being an hour away, I think I can make the trip.

I'll try to head up there next weekend, depending on my schedule.

Sorry to be negative, but I have to say that the photos on their website make the kilts look like crap. The design looks like a cross between a hip-worn casual and a three-buckle trad, which puts the lower right buckle way down there on the leg and the top one where the lower right one should be. The seams look puckered and the pleats are all over the place. The owner needs to buy an iron. I usually don't post like this, but jeez!

Oh man. I usually don't voice so negatively either. BUT, the pictures certainly leave something to be desired. It seems to me that a vendor would make a better effort to ensure the models were "ready" before taking pictures, much less posting them on their site. Some of the kilts aren't on straight, belts are all crooked. What a mess. If I had to go simply by the website, I wouldn't be doing any buisness with them.

Oh, and $125 is the SAME price as the "comparable" Utilikilt (original.) Not sure where he got "less expensive" unless he's comparing apples and oranges.

While Kelly and I don't hire a professional photographer to come in for a session to shoot all of our products professionally for the store, we DO try to make sure the kilts (and other products) look as nice as posible before we take the pics and THEN we double check the pics themselves before we put them online! Are these pics are supposed to represent how one of their kilts should look at it's best?

I agree, to be merchandising a product, and not try to present it in the best possible light, is just bad business. They would be better off to not have the Pictures, and just have descriptions for now.

They are not going to generate a great deal of interest by their website!

Well, we know that Kommando Kilts has at least one satisfied customer. Perhaps they see themselves as filling a niche market within the kilt world... not too different from Sport Kilts (which seems to have a dedicated following.) Whether we think these kilts look good or not may be irrelevant. If they manage to procure enough happy customers to keep the sewing machine running, then more power to them.

As a kilt it doesn't look good, as a khaki paper sack, it looks great. The belt loops would hold a 4 inch thick belt 5 inches wide, provided you could find one.

I can now fully appreciate the first kilt I made. Problem is, the four models all look like their first kilt, which is a feat within itself. Looks as if they were made in a timed event for the new Highland games "Kilt-Krofting."

Seriously, that one big pleat on the back isn't happening. Utilikilts has nothing to fear, but the general public does. You can purchase a Utilikilt original for $125 can't you? How could anyone mistake this for a Utilikilt without consuming several pints of Stout?

It may just be the photos, but being worn askew like that isn't helping.
