Good question. I've wondered that myself. Anyone?

The MacFarlane tartans have never been very popular. The Black and White version even less so. I have been told that it has a very nice formal look to the modern eye. It would be great for a formal black and white event.

You can try Highland Laddie on Tartanweb. He is a virtual kilt model.

I did a google search (gotta love google) and found these on Flickr.

I noticed that the black field in this tartan is a bit wider than you usually see in the MacFarlane B&W. I thought there was a photo of David Dukovny in a Black and White MacFarlane kilt floating around but I cannot find it now. I did find one of "Scotty" from Star Trek in a B&W Scott tartan, which has a similar effect.

There are a few B&W tartans. In addition to MacFarlane and Scott, Menzies has a B&W tartan. The Shephard tartan is also B&W. These are the ones you frequently see, though other clans have B&W versions of their tartans you see less often, such as Stewart. These tartans are a bit different and can be quite striking. Are you thinking of a man's kilt or getting a skirt for yourself?

Ah google--should have thought of that one
I've always loved B&W tartans, and I've been thinking of getting a skirt for myself, but I also wanted to see a kilt as I have never seen a B&W kilt before...
Thanks for the pics and the info!

This is proof yet again how dangerous this site is. I'd all but convinced myself that I don't need a Scott B&W tartan (my grandmother is a Scott.) After seeing it, getting one is pretty inevitable. That's one of the most stunning kilts that I've seen.
