Kilted at Denver Pridefest
Went to Denver Pridefest '09 this morning. Spent about three and a half hours baking in the hot Colorado sun, and loved it. Lots of folks there, very friendly bunch of folks running the booths, and not a single rude comment about my kilt. In fact, the only time my kilt really got mentioned today (other than the occasional "looking good") was when a photographer ran up and asked if he could take my picture.
Great day, just sorry I was the only kiltie there.

I had thought about going, but there was a small business expo in my community that I was involved in. So I spent about 2 hours baking in the hot Colorado sun helping to get the expo set up. I just thank the gods that my table was indoors... I was wearing my 16oz Colorado state tartan kilt. When it was time to pack up, I ran home to change into my Amerikilt so I wouldn't DIE in that sun!
So how was the festival? I've never gone. Actually, I've never had any reason to, come to think of it. What kinds of vendors and events do they have?

That seems unusual....only been to two pride festivals in Flagstaff and one in Albuquerque, but there were a bunch of kilts at all three.
Here's a pic from one of the Flagstaff pride festivals. Don't know the guy but he wanted a pic with another kiltie...

Would have thought Utilikilt would have a booth at a festival in a big city like Denver.

Cool.
The best I can do around here is wear my Bear paw pin and tartan swatch.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

my best friend moved from here to Denver. i'll see if i can convince him to put on the kilt and go so you're not the odd one out.
although he might not do it. he already asked me on facebook why i was wearing my kilt in the summer... he's one of those Scots who only wears it at Hogmany or to a wedding.

@Nighthawk: There were all kinds of vendors there. Food, jewelry, services, clothing, churches, political concerns, health concerns, even those "At The Beach" tanning people- you know, the ones who inundate Denver TV with their horrible commercials.
@Riverkilt: I'd have thought so too, but a lot of the coastal type folks from either coast consider Denver as "just part of the flyover," so I'm not too surprised.
@Aldisimo: No, I won't have my new camera until tomorrow, and the only day I was free for Pridefest was yesterday.
@GMan: Yeah, I know today's the big one, I'm just stuck at home with the honeydews (honey do this, honey do that) today.
