Kilt Suit and sporran..or not?
So, as recently posted in the Me in my Kilt section, I commissioned a kilt suit I like rather a lot.
The jacket & kilt have pockets enough to hold essentials for a party (cards, iPhone, keys) but for longer engagements/adventures, I'm considering a sporran for the outfit.
I have a basic sporran with a chrome snap but no tassels (very plain), but is there a better option or design, or should I be sporran-less?
The next adventure will be flying to California for Thanksgiving. Kilts get noticed, suits get upgrades. Why not combine?

I'll be the brave one and say you need a sporran. I'd imagine the one you describe will work just fine. If it's black, I'd think it would look very nice. A black belt would add even more to the look.
By the way, colored flashes would look good, too.

I saw some bags once at at art fair that were made of heavy rubber and stainless steel. I thought at the time they would make a wicked sporran for a contemporary kilt. I can see something like that for the suit that you had made. I wouldn't know where to find such a thing now, however.
I think you could go either way, but a sporran would punch it up a bit.

Rex.
but I do sort of think that

I have 3 kilt suits (1 Estate Tweed, 1 solid Charcoal Tweed, 1 Pinstripe) and I wear a sporran with all of them every time I wear them.
Without the sporran, they look a bit 'women's business suit-ish' for my taste... that's ONLY MY opinion and that's why I wear a sporran with them. Your milage may vary.

I'd do the sporran. In my opinion it makes your kilt look more kilt-like.

Ya do look grand in your kilt{Suit}, but ya do need the sporran{Black} and flashes and belt. It would make ya look all the more grand.

I have to agree. I don't even care for the look of my tartan kilt without a sporran. Perhaps its because I'm tall, and therefor wear a long kilt, but that big expanse of material needs something to break it up. With a tartan the pattern helps to do that, so I would expect that the effect would be worse with the relatively plain suit material.

It is a sharp looking set up. It is a personnel decision, and since you asked, I would also go with a sporran.

I have five kilt suits ( 1 bottle-green tweed, 1 navy worsted, 1 mid-grey pinstripe, 1 navy pinstripe and 1 estate tweed) and have, on occasion, worn each of them both with and without the sporran. On the whole I must say that I do prefer the overall 'look' with the sporran rather than without. (Not that I think a sporran makes a kilt a kilt - a kilt IS a kilt no matter what!) In many ways, with all the suit pockets, the sporran is superfluous, but the visual balance is maintained if one is worn.
My advice, based on the suit you have shown us, would be to shorten the tie, dispense with the belt (when wearing the waist-coat), select pale grey hose rather than the very dark ones, select red flashes to compliment the tie and add a simple, un-fussy black leather sporran. Not much to ask, really, but the effect will be stunning.
This suit is now six years old, but here I am wearing it just four weeks ago:

Take care,
Ham.

I say sporran even with the pockets. Nothing ruins the lines of a suit more than bulky items in the pockets.
