Trying to ID a tartan

When I was at the Highland Games (here in Japan) I picked up a wonderfully soft and comfortable lambswool shawl. Unfortunately there was NO indication anywhere what tartan it was, and the people manning the booth had no clue either.

Upon further inspection, i THINK that what I got here is a dress Gordon -- although the dress Gordon kilts I've seen seem to have white as a more predominant colour. Actually, it looks fairly predominant in this photo too... Funny thing is, in reality it's a lot more subdued that it looks here and the white looks almost gray.

Anyway, can someone help confirm whether or not my specimen is of the dress Gordon variety?

It's actually the Cape Breton tartan (CANADIAN Tartan)

Hmm.... Looks like you may be onto something there. I was just about to post a self-edit that dress Gordon also has BLUE which my shawl does not have. If it's in fact a Canadian regional, I'll be overjoyed!!!

Beautiful tartan. I have a shirt in the Cape Breton tartan that I picked up while honeymooning on the island many moons ago. I, too, think it would look great as a kilt.

Yes, these are dancers' kilts (presumably the same group as in the above post), but gives a good enough idea.

I'm thinking a grey argyll jacket, green hose, and yellow garters?

Dancer's kilts are just that, kilts. Although they do tend to be made of lighter weight tartan, dancer's kilts are made in the same way following the same rules as any other traditional kilt. In wearing a kilt, a dancer, no matter the sex, does not wear a kilt pin and the hose must match the tartan. A dancer's dress is dictated by the Dress Code of the SOBHD.
