Random Find
So, I have not been too active on the forums for awhile, school has gotten really crazy but there is some big news for kilting round here to report (more on that in another post I'll make once I find time, not rushing though, sorry!) but I wanted to post a random find I came across recently. (And sorry mods, if this is better fit for the media forum, please move it! )
I ran across a steampunk/industrial music group called Abney Park that have a lyrical/story focus on being airship pirates (I think, I don't know all too much honestly) but in a group picture of them their violinist is wearing a kilt!
See? haha
I felt like sharing that before I go off to catch some much needed sleep.
I hope to post some pictures and an exciting story about a large campus event I participated in a few weeks ago soon!

I just recently became aware of the existence of Steampunk. I immediately joined the Colorado group... What a weird, crazy bunch! I ought to fit right in. I love this movement! The local group has no kilted member, so they were stoked when I joined.
***EDIT*** I just listened to some of that music. Those guys are sweet! I need to pick up a few CDs.

Thebigeman77,
Abney Park is passable. They were originally a Dark Wave style band and they switched to Steampunk because it became trendy. I much prefer Dr. Steel but, alas, he is not kilted. Yet.

The site has video showing the kilted fiddler and a belly dancer. I can't have my sound on at work, so I have no idea what they sound like.
I like steampunk. It is a genre which speculates what would the world be like if the information age and mechanical age arose at the same (usually Victorian) time. Beatiful brass computers, and the like. Check out http://steampunkworkshop.com for some awesome creations (that have nothing to do with kilts).

I'm very familiar with steampunk/dieselpunk and I love the Victorian/Art Deco aesthetics (respectively), but I hadn't imagined a kilt fitting it so much and I'm pretty fascinated with that possibility, actually.
And ThinBlueLine, that's really interesting, bit of a change there then, but I can hear some of the musical influence of the darkwave in there too still. thanks for that info.

The music doesn't do much for me, but Iam going to have the image of a belly dancer in a leather flying helmet in my head for loooong time ...

I took a listen. Their music isn't bad. My 14 year old wants me to purchase a couple of their cd's.
