    ordered PV from Marton Mills

Just thought some folks would be interested...

I ordered some Polyester-viscose tartan direct from Marton Mills a couple of weeks ago. Why did I go to Marton Mills directly instead of buying the stuff from Scotweb? That's a good question, and I will be up-front about it.

Scotweb has been good to me in the past. I've ordered some small stuff from them and they've been helpful and prompt. I will be ordering a Capercaillie tartan tie from them in the next day or two for a Christmas present for a friend. I LIKE Scotweb and I appreciate that they support X Marks by advertising here. However, Scotwebs shipping cost for PV tartan fabric is very expensive and makes it such that the shipping is almost as much as buying 3-4 yards of the cloth, itself. Shipping nearly doubles the cost of the purchase. The per-meter charge for polyester viscose tartan is quite reasonable, it's the shipping that hurts.

I am not angry at Scotweb, or anything at all. I'm just presenting a fact. I will ABSOLUTELY continue to do business with Scotweb in the future.

Buying the cloth directly from Marton Mills resulted in a per-meter cost for the fabric which was slightly, but not much lower than buying from Scotweb. That wasn't a big deal to me, I don't care about a couple of dollars or Euros. No, the big deal is the shipping. Marton Mills shipped to me (in the USA) for about a third of what Scotweb would charge. That's a big difference.

I picked it up at the post office today. There was no customs charge, nor was there any sort of import fee.

Kudos to Marton Mills for processing my order quickly, to Helen at Marton Mills information for returning e-mail promptly, and to the company for it's affordable shipping arrangements.

I did! .... and I keep managing to prevent myself from taking on more.

But this past September, in an overflow of enthusiasm at dinner, I offered to make Highland Athlete and general goddess and sweetie, Summer Pierson a kilt for Christmas.

I opened my yap, now I gotta make good on it. Oy. Not that I mind making a kilt for Summer, mind you.
