Looking for costs / tariffs to ship kilt wear to USA
I’ve just spent time trying to find out what the “ new” tariffs would be for shipping/ selling used kilt wear ( wool kilts, wool kilt hose, leather sporrans - all used) from Canada to the USA. I wasn’t able to find any clear answers. Do any members here have the current cost information. I did see a section that said all clothing had to have sewn in labels , showing fabric composition, country of origin, et etc. It is looking like it might basically be too high sets of requirements, to try to sell, and ship the kilts, etc., into the USA. 😞😖

I was just looking at this last evening for a bonnet. There's an app that Canada Post has partnered with, Zonos. From what I read, there's a fee for service, and percentage of tariffs collected and they'll complete all paperwork.
You take a picture of the item, the app tries to classify it and then you can adjust once it suggests what it thinks the item is and where it is from.
For a balmoral made in Canada, tariffs would have been 35%.

Under USMCA, if the materials are produced in Canada, and the product is made in Canada, and they properly document it, then there may be no tariffs to import it into the USA.

This depends, at least to some extent, on carrier. Apparently with Canada Post, nothing is exempt even if it falls under USMCA.

Thanks for the replies, so far. I would like to request that, if possible, links to the source of information be included. Thanks.

I had already tried searching for specific, applicable information , but without any luck. I’m hoping that someone with related experience in the new requirements might know ( and share) the specific, applicable information . ( applicable to used wool kilts , lacking documentation of the source of the materials used in construction- the weaving mill, for the wool tartan fabric is no longer in operation. I also have used wool hose, sporrans. ) . I was hoping to find no tariffs on second hand clothing. 😞

USMCA only applies if you have documentation proving the item qualifies. Without that, you'll be subject to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
There is a HTS code for used clothing, but it's intended for clothing that's substantially worn out. Kilts in wearable condition won't quality. So, you'll be charged the same tariff as if you were importing a new kilt.

Thanks for that. Now I “just “ need to see if I can find out what that amount would be.
