First Kilt?
Since I'm in the process of looking for my first kilt, I thought I'd ask all of you what was your first kilt, where did you wear it for the first time and how was the experience?

I started purchasing my own, two SportsKilts then Utilikilts.

my first kilt was a grey Amerikilt...infact it was one of the first Amerikilts ever made, 1 of 25 or something like that. I wore it right out of the box at the motorcycle shop I was working at at the time, and since then I have not voluntarily worn pants. Hell, me and my kilts have been through alot of punishment, blood, puke, baby puke, beer, ash, jumping over drum kits at the end of a show, falling out of the back of a pickup truck when the cap fell off.... the list goes on

Hey Buddha, That was quite a sudden change. I'm curious... what kind of reaction did you receive from family, friends, co-workers?

My first kilt was and is from the House of Edgar a Co Fermanagh. Purchased it for the St Patrick's Day Parade about five years ago, and still wear it with pride! That got me into other kilts and places like this, regrets??? NO WAY

My first kilt was home made out of denim. The reaction was pretty good. My skill at making kilts has certainly improved since that one.

my first kilt...
My first kilt was a Canadian Army surplus kilt from the Black Watch of Canada, made in Glasgow. I wore it as part of the British reenacting unit that I was part of.
It was a "horse-blanket", 20 oz. weight wool, but it was a "tank", as Jimmy is want to call them!

My Very First kilt was a Sport Kilt and it was purchased in 1996. I have worn it a dozen of times then it was stored in the closet until the day it went to the Charity Shop.
My second kilt was a black Original UtiliKilt. I love it so much, I bought another one 2 months later.

My first and only (so far) kilt is one purchased for me by my Girlfriend, an Irish National from Stillwater, my first sporran is a Canadian Army Surplus Sporran (non-pipe band, plain leather) and the first place I wore the ensemble was - Wal-Mart! Of course I have no regrets whatsoever as the experience was uplifting like a strong gust to a kilt.
Cheers,

I received my first kilt when I was 12, from my family. It was handed-down from a couple generations, but was cared-for like a museum relic. It's a HUGE reason why I'm so heavily in favor of a hand-sewn, wool kilt. Fashion comes and fashion goes... but quality last a LONG time.
I wore it often to the normal festivals and gatherings in Canada. I still have what MAY be one of the first denim kilts. My grandmother was a seamstress for Levi Strauss. A little extra fabric... a little extra time and voila. I'm sure that it was just a "wild hair" like some of the ones that I build now. Unfortunately, it fits the 14-year-old me and not wearable now.
