new website
One of the guys who contributes to Rigged's San Francisco Bay Area kilt-men's forum has put together a nifty new website. Check it out..
http://www.kiltday.com/
You'll notice that somehow, magically, no matter WHAT day you visit the website, that day turns out to be Kilt Day! Isn't that AMAZING?? Ah, the wonders of the internet.
Y'all can point your friends and associates there whenthey ask...."Something special going on today? Why the kilt?" You can tell them that it's Kilt Day, which of course, it is. EVERY day is Kilt Day.. Like, *DUH*. :P
Check out the array of links, too. Nice work all around, and a good web resource for anyone, especially new folks..

Note that a number of the links on the page are not really to kilt sites, but rather, general "unbifurcated garment" sites. Those might not be to your taste (some they're not my taste, either) but the PRINCIPLE is good, if you ask me.
BTW, does anyone else think that the sort-of pinstriped business kilt and jacket in one of the pictures on kitday.com is dead-bug-ugly?

I am the author of kiltday.com and I must admit that the site is a work in progress. Initially, I copped a lot of stuff from many sites and I am honing the site as time goes on. I did "borrow" many of the links from Tom's Cafe. I have added a few and removed a few. I am planning on going through and taking out the cross-dressing sites as I want it to be primarily kilt related with applicable references to other masculine outfits of a masculine nature from other contemporary cultures. I'm not a big fan of the men-in-skirts movement or cross-dressing, but to each their own. I try not to judge, it's just not my deal. So, as time goes on, I will be removing links that have that bent. I just have not had a lot of time to check each link. Sorry.
As for the un-credited stuff, please understand, I mean no offense. If anyone as ownership or copyright on any of the images on my site, I'd be happy to remove and replace them or add applicable credit, if they like. My intent is to promote kilts as acceptable straight men's fashion and I believe most anyone involved likely feels the same way. All of the images were culled from various websites and while I have been in contact with some of their owners, in many cases, I have no way of locating the owner of some images as they have been passed around and appear to have no embedded copyright information. Please note, I am not profiting from my site.. it is purely an effort to help the cause.
The photo of Bear, as most of you know, was taken from the PK site and I have been in contact with Jeff at PK. I advised him that I was using one of his pictures and set it with a reference and link to his site. He did not object. Bear, you have already stated you don't care, but if you change your mind or if you would like to replace it with another photo (shorter sporran chain maybe?), please let me know. No problem. I think it is one of the most "macho" of the "straight guy in a kilt" pictures I have seen anywhere. Kudos to you Bear and thanks for your allowing me to use it.
Obviously, as you can see, I am trying to present a comprehensive image of masculinity and kilts to show there is no shame and only pride in being kilted. If anyone has any ideas on how I can improve the site, please let me know. I have gotten a lot of great feedback and constructive comments. All appreciated.
As for the No Pants Day references.. please allow me to explain.
No Pants Day (this month) was the day I decided to go out in a kilt for daily pursuits (rather than for Highland Games). It was the impetus for me. I think the fact that I had that one little thing to bolster my decision and was armed with that if needed (which it wasn't), gave me the confidence to do it. I received great feedback, positive comments and support from friends and strangers alike. No Pants Day and www.nopantsday.com was the reason I decided to make www.kiltday.com.. so others could have that one little weapon in their arsenal and hopefully to give a few guys that little bit of confidence (both after reading the content and looking at the pictures) as well as being able to refer any possible naysayers to the site, if the topic comes up.
Please keep in mind, last I checked, there was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on the www.nopantsday.com website that was even slightly "anti-kilt." All of this talk about the "inventors" of No Pants Day stating in an interview that they did not support kilts is hearsay as far as I am concerned and the fact that it is not addressed on their site is evidence to me that if the comment was made, it may be the position or opinion of an individual and not the "movement" (if you can call it that) in general. I think that as long as they have not published anything AGAINST kilts, I feel good about using them and celebrating No Pants Day in a kilt. If anyone finds anything on their site that contradicts this, please let me know.
I appreciate the supportive comments and would love to get more input from the people that participate here.

Welcome aboard Mark.
Personally, I enjoyed visiting your site and will return.
And don't be a stranger here.

Hi, Mark, glad to see you here! Maybe you'll want to replace the Ugly Bear picture with one of yourself in your new PK, when I get it done? (Of course, that will happen faster if I quit typing here and go sew.) Later!

You said it Jeff, not me! (I'm not one to piss off my tailor)
Thanks for the "push" guys! I just went in and updated the links on my site and removed all of the "men-in-skirts (and dresses)" stuff. As I mentioned before, to each his own. That said, I do feel the "men-in-skirts cause" is counterproductive to the "men-in-kilts cause."
I am sure there may be some that disagree and I’m sure there are some that may see it as opposite sides of the same coin. That said, I see a kilt as a man’s garment and have no desire to wear women’s skirts, dresses or other women’s clothing and I think those that do cause the uninformed and bigotted in our midst to see us (the kilted and the skirted) as the same.
Sorry if that offends anyone here (but, this is NOT Tom’s Café).

"I was using the urinal in a bar in Pullman, Washington a few weekends back. It was rather late in the evening and a bunch of guys were talking (probably thought they were whispering) and saying ..."no, It's a Utilikilt, can't you read the pocket? That's pretty damned cool...""
I've handed out quite a few cards in restrooms. Seems that a lot of guys "get it" right away when they see how simple life becomes when you don't have to fight a zipper.

Hi Alan,
With regard to the pinstripe kilt suit: I also have this suit which, for me as a non-trouser owner, is indeed as close as I can get to a business suit! Admittedly, now that I am retired, it does not get a lot of wearing but, with trousers, it was precisely what I wore for work through most of my working life. This kilted suit (one of three kilt suits in my wardrobe) is the one I select to wear to evening drinks parties/receptions, to funerals (with a white shirt and black tie) and to weddings when the full dress tartan ensemble would be inappropriate for a guest. I have tried to post a photo of my suit in this post but I cannot find a way to do so! However, there is one on page 6 of my Photo Album (link below).
As with most items of clothing, whether or not it looks good/effective depends so much upon how it is worn and accessorised, and I have to agree that the photo taken on the catwalk at 'Dressed to Kilt' is of a slovenly and untidy presentation. A Pinstripe suit is semi-formal and should be worn appropriately. The hose should be worn pulled up and with smart shoes; the shirt chosen is totally out of place and should have been plain (white, black or a pastel shade being ideal with grey pinstripe).
I do not always wear a sporran with this suit, indeed I sometimes wear the kilt casually without the jacket - black boots, rolled down black or grey hose and a chunky black sweater.
Anything is possible with this outfit, as with any other, but thought MUST be given to the image the wearer presents before he ventures into the great world outside!

Ham,
For some reason, I am not able to get your pictures to load. I am getting little red x's where the images should be. Is it my system?

Mark,
I am sorry to hear that. Now, as everyone knows, I am no 'Techie' when it comes to computer-type matters, but I think I have heard that some Firewalls can prevent photos in albums like mine being seen - but don't take my word for it.
Perhaps someone here who understands these things can advise?
