Pennsylvania Tartan?
Greetings!
I just discovered this most excellent forum. Maybe someone here can help me.
I would like to purchase a kilt in the Pennsylvania tartan. The ONLY place I can find that sells this is: http://www.sheepskinshop.com/tartan.htm
But, they only make it in a blanket weight. They have no plans to have it produced in anything light enough to be used for garments.
Has anyone heard of a kilt-weight material in PA Tartan?
Its a decent looking weave.
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
OE

OE:
Very nice -- thanks for the link. The Pa. tartan must be fairly new; I particularly like the fact that it honours the Black Watch and the Battle of Bushy Run.
You might talk to our own Matt Newsome to see if it could be reproduced for you:

Hello! The PA Tartan is about 10(ish) years old...As you said, the Sheepskin Shop in Ebensburg is the only place that sells it, and in blanket weight only...However, if you are planning on having it woven (i.e. through Matt or someone else) I will be interested in purchasing some cloth...Let me know how things work out!

I see the Ohio tartan is just butt ugly.
Who designs these things?

If I remember right, the PA tartan was designed by William H. Johnston, and I don't think anything official was ever done with it.
In any case, I can get cloth. Minimum order is 4 yards. $65 per yard, 28" wide, either 16 oz or 13 oz weight. If you want to get more let me know -- larger quantities I can get double width, effectively cutting the cost in half.
I'm heading out of town in the morning until Tuesday, so if anyone PMs or emails me, don't expect a response till then.
Everyone have a great weekend!

You beat me to it, Prester John. I'm just surprised that they don't require sewing a block "O" and that pot-leaf in it.

When will someone (who knows what they're doing, unlike myself!) design a New York State tartan?!

I rather like the Maryland tartan, but it joins a long list of custom order tartans that I am unlikely to get, including St. George, Arsenal Football Club and sadly, Callaghan.
