A guy walks into a bar

OK that should read a kilted guy walks into a bar. The kilted guy was me, and I was in Santa Fe, New Mexico in a neighborhood bar and who do I see but my old college roommate, whom I haven't seen in I don't know how many years. Surprised us both. We got to talking about things in our lifes and how life has treated us in general. After about three hours of talking, we both went on our ways, he to California and me back to Colorado. The funny thing is he never mentioned me wearing a kilt!

Sounds like a wonderful chance meeting.

Life is both funny and fickle at times, and I like it when those work out in your favour.

I've had that happen Glen, isn't it annoying when they don't give you an opening to talk about how wonderful the kilt is! :-x

Rather than be concerned about not having the chance to extol the virtues of kilt wearing. I'd consider it an excellent encounter.

For your chum did not react with shock-horror, possibly flee at the sight of you in some eccentric attire. Nor did he ask that silly question.

Rather he accepted you and what you were wearing on the basis of it being an entirely normal encounter: which is as it should be.

For I'd suggest that the ideal is for the kilt to be accepted as an entirely normal day to day form of male attire: and not worthy of comment.

So congratulations on a superb experience.

Well, I suppose that is how it is for me. It is very seldom indeed that I receive any comments at all (complimentary or otherwise) and, as most of you know, I am an all-day every-day kilt wearer!

People that know you and don't comment on the kilt either accept you as you are or don't care enough to bother commenting. I assume an old college roommate would be in the former camp.

I think it would be wonderful to have the kilt thought of by all as a normal garment for everyday wear. But I also think it would be terrible to have the kilt thought of by all as a normal garment for everyday wear.
It would be sad to see the kilt regarded as just another garment and not special at all.
