    Robertson Hunting

Okay, experts, I have a question.

My wife's clan is Robertson, and I love the hunting tartan, and I'd love to see it pleated to stripe, the white stripe specifically, but I don't know if this can be done as it is a wiiiiiide pattern. (the North Texas Calendonia Pipes and Drums wear it, if you want to see some pics of it - their gallery isn't very good, but you can see it here http://www.ntcpd.com)

Can this be done to the white stripe?

    Thanks for your help.

John, I looked at the tartan on the Kilt Store web site and found a couple of them. If you are going with the one with the larger white stripe I can't think of any reason you could not have it pleated to the stripe. It looks about the same width of the Gold stripe in the Gordon and that can be pleated to the stripe.

I would guess it can be done and would make a great looking kilt from both sides.

I've pleated the Hunting Robertson to the red stripe, and it's fabulous.

    Hmmm red stripe, eh?

    Interesting....

Hey Barb, just out of curiousity, is white stripe pleating out of the question for a hunting Robertson? There's alot of space between those white stripes!

I like the red stripe thing, though. Do you have any pictures? Please?

I made a Hunting Robertson box pleated kilt to the white stripe. You are right, it is a wide pattern, and this gentleman's kilt only had 6 pleats in the back -- but it looked good. I have seen early nineteenth century box pleated kilts with only 6 wide pleats, so it worked out ok.

Pictures of this kilt are in the gallery on my web site:

    Matt, that looks great!

Barb, I'd still love to see the kilt pleated to red stripe if you have a picture!

As I said, this being my wife's clan, it's just a matter of time before we all have one. I was just wondering if it could be done, because the white stripes are soooo far apart.

I am a huge fan of the NTCPD. They play at all our festivals, & are just fantastic.
