Christmas truce
I am watching a show on the history channel about the Christmas truce between the Germans and Uk's during WW1. They just showed a segment where the Germans and the Scotsmen were playing soccer during the truce. The Germans were having a laugh at the fact that the scotsmen wern't wearing anything under their kilts. The Scotsmen were mooning the Germans after a goal.

The last Scottish veteran of that battle died recently. It's a wonderful story.

I saw that too, it was great, would to God the truce would had lasted, and even to this day, I look forward to the time when there will be no more war.
I wonder how comfy those kilts were in such horrid conditions, better than trousers I'll wager!

Were the Germans laughing at the Scots' definition of "regimental," or the fact that the Scots, being highly trained members of the British army, were mooning them in drill formation?;)
Okay, so the latter probably didn't happen. I just got this mental picture of a sergeant (a la Monty Python's John Cleese) barking "Form ranks! About face! Present breech!"
If I saw that, I might laugh too.

Whilst the fact of the Yule truce is a fact, and there are some accounts of football being played.
The idea of 'mooning' is very questionable, it is probably a much later import.
