    Highland Wrestling?

I have read about Highland wrestling and I would love to give it a try. I saw some videos of matches (all of kids) and think I got the basic idea of it down. I also read a short article on the rules.

Anyone know where I could see some matches near Nebraska? I looked at several websites of Festivals/Games the wife and I are thinking about attending, but I could not find any listing of athletics beyond Scottish Heavy athletics.

Are you talking about Scottish Backhold wrestling? Outside of a highland games, I dont know anywhere you'd be likely to see it.

I would be willing to give it a try, from what I understand it does not require a submission to win, you start in a clinch and have to make the other guy touch the ground with any part of his body besides his feet. I think it would me more fun if it continued on the ground into a submission. I am much more comfortable wrestling on the ground than I am standing up, which would put me in a disadvantage under highland rules.

I've seen different names for it, but I think we are all thinking the same. Backhold wrestling would be the most descriptive.

I am with Sciuropterus...after years of high school and college wrestling, and BJJ and Full contact, I would prefer ground/submission fighting. But the idea of wrestling in a kilt has a certain appeal, plus a new style would be interesting. I think it would be much like Greco-Roman style.
