Kilts Aplenty in Glasgow
Just returned from four days in Glasgow, where I've been helping with a club exhibit at our annual model rail show. I packed a pair of trousers but in the event I wore my black heavyweight kilt all four days. Only saw about ten other kilts on Friday, but on Saturday there seemed to be loads of guys wearing kilts among the paying public. Some no doubt would have been going on to the rugby in Edinburgh afterwards while a few were stewarding at a wedding exhibition in an adjacent hall and came through to visit our show during their break. A wide variety of tartans were represented and I also saw plain grey and several black kilts including meeting another guy in a black heavyweight. The one that really caught my eye was a Dark Island black and grey, so much so that whenever I arrived home I ordered up a 5 yard 13 oz casual in Dark Island tartan over the internet. Which was rather indulgent as only last week I visited the Kilt Shop in Galashiels and ordered up an 8 yard 13 oz Spirit of Scotland. So to use a word I learned on this forum, I'm now jonesing for two new kilts which will increase my wardrobe from three to five kilts.

That is a really intriguing taran design.

The waiting can be a bummer but I've got to admit, it's a bit like christmas when the packages finally arrive!

I hope that everyone was envious of your Kilt wearing, you look great.
Colin, I forgot about that rugby match, you may have it right about the influx of Kilts, but I go with the hey that's great camp (ever the hopeful)

Well I hate to be the one to bring this up, wasn't there a Scotland vs England rugby game on last weekend? If so, that could account for the number of kilts seen in Glasgow.
If not, than hey.....great news! Glasgow was actually where I met my first casual kilt wearer (Dave Stewart). We actually met on an overnight coach/ferry from Dublin to Glasgow but hung out in Glasgow once we got their. Dave made sure we were able to hit a traditional Scottish pub for what would have been my Grandfather's 70th. It was really nice to be in Scotland and have half the pub raise a pint to the late great Jack Colin MacKenzie.
