    Packing a kilt for travel

I'll be making a trip to Texas next week and while I plan on wearing my SWK Standard Balck Watch kilt on the plane, I'll have a UK Original (Olive Twill) to pack. I have never packed a kilt in a suitecase.

Can you give me any suggestions? How should I fold it? (Maybe it should be "rolled?")

Thank you for any thoughts or experience you care to share.

I fold my UKs vertically with the pleats either on the outside or inside (I haven't noticed that one is better than the other.) You can also roll UKs, but the cargo pockets might get in the way (they do on my Workman's.)

I roll my kilts loosely and they seem to travel well. The UK's with cargo pockets I just do the same and hang them at the other end to shake out any creases. When you roll even the cargo pockets don't seem to wrinkle.

I've "rolled" my kilts using the width of the apron as a guide. If I need to make them smaller, I then fold them in half across the pleats. Three UKs and a Bear travelled for 22 days through Europe like that.

I would do touch-up ironing every few days if they needed it, which was only twice as I recall.

    Hey Michael,

I travel by car a lot and used to take my spare UKs on hangers. That got cumbersome and I now just snap them together, hold up the snapped together UK, fold that in half, and lay it on the bottom of my suitcase or bag. Never a problem. I've stacked as many as four UKs that way, but I do reverse their direction in the bag each layer. No clue why, they just seem to ride better that way.

I don't know if you all have noticed at K-mart or Walmart those strange little folding beach chairs that come in those oblong bags made from a very heavy nylon or similar material. I use those bags for my kilts when I travel, I put a grommet in the closed end and a drawstring through it and roll up my kilt with the pleats on the outside and attach the drawstring to it and pull it right up into the bag, the open end is then closed with the supplied drawstring closure and my kilts are safe from water and weather and any abrasion. I hope that I explained this right.

    Chris.
