    Mardi Gras Tartan?

First of all, Happy Mardi Gras! I was wondering if there is tartan around with the primary Mardi Gras colors of purple, yellow, and green. If there is, that would be a great kilt to wear for Fat Tuesday.

You would just have to careful if you wore it to New Orleans. You just know there would be many unwanted kilt checks in that environment.

Not necessarily in Mardi Gras colours, but one could always wear the Louisiana State Tartan:

My wife and mother-in-law both wear this tartan, of course!

I'm off to a Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday party this evening at my MIL's parish -- she is cooking Cajun, and there will even be King Cakes! And, I will be in my kilt, as I am giving a guest lecture this evening in the Lewis & Clark class at one of the universities in town -- I will be talking about the Scottish explorer Alexander Mackenzie, who beat L & C by 13 years to the Pacific!

Here's a quick try at a Mardi Gras tartan:

Nothing serious, just playing with a simple tartan generator.

Good, that's just the effect I was going for, something bright and loud!

I'm sure if it was ever put into cloth, it wouldn't be as bright as these computer generated colors.

    Todd,
You just answered a question I've had for quite some time. As a former resident of the Pelican state, grad of LSU, and married to a gal from New Orleans, I thought that there must be a tartan related to LA but had never found one. Why didn't I just ask Matt?

Looks like there will be a new kilt at the top of the wish list!

By the way, I started celebrating this morning with a big plate of Boudin and scrambled eggs. Lunch will be chicken and sausage gumbo, and Dinner will be fried catfish po-boys! If only I had a six-pack Dixie longnecks!

Bill in NC, but still missing the south Louisiana lifestyle.
