Hi Everybody

After reading xmarksthescot and getting some good info from it I decided to join. I'm a Kiwi living and working here in Japan and I've just bought two kilts online, one a SWK blackwatch economy kilt ( which is great value for money ) and the other a Gunn modern kilt from the Celtic croft. I did obtain a cheaper black sporran with a chain , but what I'm looking for is a trad soft leather sporran in brown for casual day wear as I have a nice wide brown kilt belt. But I don't want to order a sporran from the net that doesn't have enough room for my wallet, change , maybe even a tobacco pipe . I have seen the Buzz Kidder brown sporran with the tassles and it looks quite good. If anyone has one of these sporrans or knows of another one that has plently of room could you please post a reply about it. As I'm keen to get out & about and start wearing my kilt.

Without a doubt, a Freelander. They are handmade in Norway by a Scot - David Freelander. I will always recommend his sporran to anyone who is looking for a quality hand made sporran.

The best Day Sporran you'll hear about is a Freelander. They are works of art and very roomy.

I can vouch for the Brown Buzz Kidder though. This looks great on the green tartans.They are not as roomy as the Freelanders but I can carry keys, wallet, change and a few other small things in it without any change of shape. For an economical starter sporran they are a great choice.

I have two Freelanders and love them. Can hardly get my hand into most "regular" sporrans, let alone my stuff. Seems some sort of conspiricy that sporran vendors and resellers seldom seem to list the size of their sporrans or show them pictured next to anything to use as a size reference. Go figure.

I just got my second Nativearth LARGE sporran today, the black one. Got the brown at the Arizona Ren Faire last year. They call it a #6 pouch and it comes with a strap so it can also be used as a regular pouch or possibles bag. But it has a wide patch on the back so it can be hung from a belt OR a sporran strap.

This sucker is 9"x9"x3" and has a divider inside at the back. On the front of the inside divider is another pouch that is perfect for my wallet. Its right there every time. No rummaging around in my "stuff" looking for it.

The leather is quality goods, the craftsmanship is excellent. Price is $140 USD plus shipping ($8.00 from Mariposa, California to Page, Arizona). This is a solid value.

Nativearth's website is www.nativearth.com (note the single e). Its sort of inactive but you can get their phone and email there. Use the aol email, the other doesn't work.

If you are going casual you might look at a leather fanny pack turned to the front and some even have cell phone pockets;

I used askjeeves.com (Leather fanny Pack) but the prices are all about the same, don't know what they might be in Japan. found the same pack in a leather store here in Utah and it was on "sale" same price.
