    Highlander in Iraq

we had some down time between missions a few days ago, and my Local Nationals were bored. We had completed the days training, and all weapons and vehicle maintenence had been done. The LN's asked me if I had a DVD for them to watch to pass some time, so I gave them a copy of the original Highlander movie. They loved it. Unfortunetly, I did not watch it with them as I had other duties to attend to, but the translator assures me, that everyone enjoyed it immensly. After the Baghdad Kilt flop, at least i can bring some culture to them via one of the greatest movies in my mind.

you might have to do a thread search, but basically, I tried to have the Iraqi seamstres sew me a kilt for a burns dinner I wanted to have in Baghdad a couple of months ago. it was a disaster. Barb even sent me her book on how to sew a kilt, but of course it was in English, and even with the book, two translators and plenty of assurances of "yes yes mista, me know" the kilts came out looking like post shower throw towls. just...not a good moment. I did however, give my utilikilt to a taylor last year, and he made me a splendid UK knock off in leather. All my kilts are at home, and I wanted one made in Iraq, by an Iraqi. be careful what you ask for.
