    Very silly experience

a few days ago I was at an Old Navy store, looking for some t-shirts to wear with my kilt, and one of the younger employees walked up to assist me. I had my tartan kilt on, and heard the most unexpected question I had ever heard while kilted. he said "Looks like we've got your shirts all taken care of. Now to put some jeans with those."

I stood there for a second, not sure what I had heard, and asked him to repeat himself.

he responded "Oh, sorry. I said we need to find some jeans to go with those shirts. if you follow me I'll show you where our most popular jeans are."

I was a bit astounded. I collected my shirts, and said "I'm sorry. I don't wear jeans anymore. Unless you have a kilt section, I'm going to head to the register."

The poor boy, realizing the glaring error he had made, turned a rather odd shade of red, said "Enjoy those shirts" and shuffled off quickly.

has something like this happened to anyone else?

Quite a bizarre experience. Occasionally some people have realised I'm wearing a kilt after half a conversation but it's pretty rare.
Maybe he was fresh out of a sales course and got a bit keen!

I'm sure it was the standard line he had been taught. If the customer buys some shirts, try to sell some jeans.

Besides, just because you are wearing a kilt doesn't necessarily mean you always wear a kilt. Kilt wearers are in the minority, and those who only wear kilts even more so.

Great story. It sounds like he was using the pitch he was taught. He's young and will recover.

Not unusual for some peolpe to not notice I'm kilted....particularly when I have my "Scottish Jeans" on...other's just make good eye contact or are so into themselves they don't notice.

Cute when they realize it though...usually some gasps and stutters...

I believe that sums the situation up pretty well.

I suppose you could always make up a t-shirt emblazened with... "I hate denim jeans!" front and back.

I prefer the quote "Pants are for women"...which I am going to make into a t-shirt once I find suitable font.

I've got to get myself one of those!

Two weeks back I was busily trying to feed a parking meter when the door of the next car opened and a woman got out and said "I really like your quilt!" After seeing my confused look she realized her mistake and corrected herself. This led to a short but very pleasant conversation.
Now that wouldn't have happened if I were wearing jeans.
