relative n00b!
Hey all. Yeah, I am a relative n00b on this board. Was pointed to this community by a forum member at SFI. Seems like a fun place. Made a couple posts before this one. Eh, what can I say, I didn't sign up for nothing, so I might as well add what I could, and ask where I felt appropriate.

Welcome!
Andrew - can I ask where you are? There is also a map somewhere on this forum where you can add a push-pin so we can see where on the earth all the kilted guys are.
Have you been kilted long? What kilts do you have? When do you wear them?
So many questions..... ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Phil in Phoenix, kilted for a little over three weeks now....

Thanks for all the kind greetings guys. I didn't put this thread on email-notification... so this is the first time I have checked back on it...as I didn't know that auto-emails weren't default.
I live in the Seattle area, and if, time willing, there happens to be another member in the area, I'd totally be down for BS and beers.
Been wearing the kilt for about a month or two... often around my home, as I only have one sporran, and it isn't the best...
currently own 2 Stillwater pieces, in two sizes (one is a tight fit, but I want to lose weight...so it is mild inspiration), and I have a piece from a place called kiltmart.com. Inexpensive accessories, but I was a bit disappointed with the kilt I received from them. I use it as my "beater". I have also ordered 5 yards each of 2 different tartans for the purpose of wearing as great kilts. AND to top all of that off, I am getting a Neokilt soon (as soon as Josh and I can hammer out the small details left).
I ran into a bit of a conundrum the other night doing surname research. I have always considered myself a Gordon, hell, my family shield has a Gordon badge on it... the issue is that the name which ties me to Gordon also seems to tie to Clan Muir as well. The name being Moir, from my grandmother on my father's side. I have been seriously trying to come to terms with this, as I do not know which one would be more appropriate for me to wear (as I have kilts in Gordon tartans, and one of the great kilts is too...the other is Muir after this discovery). I went the middle rote, and a great kilt of each satisfies my need for identification, and curiosity. Problem being that from my readings Clan Muir fragmented in the 1700s, and were adopted, incorporated etc. by larger clans... one of which was obviously Gordon. Most sources also still list Muir, and Moir and every other alternative spelling as septs of Gordon...while the Muir websites I have found do not claim to be anything other than Muir.
So this is really screwing with my head. Also, at the time that my family had done the research on our heritage, there wasn't really a clan Muir at that point, as this resurgence is newer (from what I have read somewhere between 1999, and 2000...we had gotten our genealogy stuff done in the 80s).
So there is my story, for the most part...aside from all the other goofy bits of birthplace vs. various residences throughout the years... I was born in Greenock, and lived in plenty of other places, as well as being well traveled for somone my age...so telling this part would take even more space.
So there ya go. If there are any Muirs, or Gordons on the board, I would like to chit chat with you guys, to try and dig up more info, on both sides of the fence.
