oops! Hooray for accessories!

Alright, just placed an order w/ the Tartan Museum. New sporran, kilt belt, sporran belt, shirt, and a pair of black hose (the shirt was black). All the leather is brown (I like the look of it, so there!). The downside? Over $200 in new accessories! Ha ha ha, oops! The plus side? I should be able to wear these with any of kilts, since it's relatively coordinated, it should look good with whatever. The sporran was a "Rob Roy", and the belt was one of the large casual belts, the shirt a black "jacobite" style. I think even with a belted plaid it should look quite nice, if not exactly 100% historically accurate. Only a mild case of buyer's remorse...not much. I have a pair of semi-dress shoes from my wedding that I think I can use as substitute brogues for a while.
Did I make good choices for accessories and style? I think I did... does anyone else find a relatively simple scheme the most tasteful?

Sounds like a good grouping to me. I just ordered leather sporran straps in chestnut and black, and a chestnut great kilt belt from cavscout. I'm taking the advice of all to ditch the chain except for formal occasions, which I don't see anytime soon.

As for simple being most tasteful, I'd have to say that, simple or elaborate, the tastefulness comes in how you combine all the pieces parts to bring off the look you're going for. I tend toward simplicity myself because I lack a good sense of style and color.

I tend to like simple due to the idea of clean taste. I have seen plenty of elaborate examples in plenty of things, and that makes me appreciate the simple aspects more. I really like the look of dark brown leather w/ kilt accessories...so I went for it. I say leather sporran strap is the way to go... kinder to the garment, and if you happen to wear a kilt that is an acrylic blend, saving some wear and tear is a good thing (and I do have a couple acrylic blends). Oh yeah, and I think it IS harder to botch a simplistic set of accessories, which is a good thing for those of us who aren't as inclin ed towards high fashion.
I like ordering from the Tartan Museum, despite the fact that it is across the country, and some of the stuff has a higher wait time than others...I just LIKE what the establishment is. I should be getting the first of my sections of cloth for a belted plaid any day now. Heh.

I need to make my next "kilt" order a "Kilt accessories" order. I need a couple pair of different coloured hose, some red flashes, a brown sporran, I could get outta hand!

I find that I spend about as much on the accessories as I do the kilts. My credit card company will probably make me a member of the high rollers club if I don't let the card cool off for a while.

I also tend to like the simpler accessories. The kilt itself tends to draw enough focus without a bunch of gaudy items placed about your body.

I think I'll order....it's gonna be a number of weeks before this piece is done...I'll go ahead and order... repeat I don't know how many times... then you have a handful of kilts, and not enough accessories!
I'm sure that has happened to more than just a couple of folks on here! Ha ha ha.

I'm trying hard to make sure the accessories can do multiple duty. And I try to order what I need all from the same place to cut down on shipping charges!
