First kilt/First pics

As I said in the main forum, the shipping by SWK was beyond fast. Finished ordering and paying on Saturday morning, and the kilt was on my front porch today (MONDAY) when I got home from work.

So, here it is..."out of the box". I wanted to get the flashes and hose in the pic, so I threw on a white dress shirt.

How does the length look? Standing in front of the mirror, it looked long (worn just above the navel), but not so in these pics. I'm just aboyut 6-ft. tall, so I think the length is just about right for me. I could wear it lower, if need be.

Kneeling on the floor gives me an inch from floor to hem. What's "the rule" there?

Forgive the SWK Nightstalker sporran with the formal shirt. But, I figured, with no tie, it's kinda semi-formal, anyway. My neighbor who took the pics, has a much dressier sporran I can borrow until I get one of my own.

Now, back to SWK.com to order up a few more.

You're a first timer?!?!?

Wow, you did amazing. You've got it! It looks perfect! The shoes, hose, flashes, kilt, sporran, belt, and shirt all look very sharp! I don't think I've seen a first-timer look so good right off the bat!

congrats on your first kilt! it looks great.

as for the kilt length, the general "rule" is when you kneel down and stay straight, the hem touches the ground.

that being said, everyone wears the kilt where they like it. Some shorter, some longer. As long as the hem is around the knees, you shouldn't have any troubles.

longer or shorter, then we might need a talk.

That's good to know, as there is some room to play with in wearing it a tad lower.

I'm flying out to the west coast to meet up with the wife and kids, who took the week off to visit her family out there while I worked. We're going out for dinner for my mother-in-law's birthday Sunday night, so my wife told me to remember to pack something nice for going out.

She has no idea.

My neighbor coudln't believe the quality of the SWK for the money. He has a hand made kilt in his family tartan for formal occasions, but he told me he's going straight to SWK.com to order one, and that I need to find a good pub in the area that pours good scotch for a night out once he gets his "drinking kilt".

Being in Boston, I could rattle off several names of places to get a decent pint of Guinness, but I'll have to do some research on the availability of good single malts in town.

Looking pretty sharp; with a little common sense, it isn't hard to do a kilt right on the first time. Of course, one is much more likely to get it right, if one has had a prior interest in kilts (history, heritage, whatever). Heh... you're packing up your kilt to wear out, and your wife doesn't know about it... that's great! Hah... what do you think her reaction will be?
