What Price Glory?!
Hey all.
I have been mulling over the idea of buying a kilt from WPG. I have been looking at them for a while, and thought them a little strange, until I recently re-read exactly what they are, and then it all sunk in... and I want one! The prices seem rather nicely placed, and they are a very heavy wool, and historic in regards to their time period to boot it seems. I have read many good things about WPG kilts, mostly that they are warm, and are incredibly durable. I want a Gordon, AND a Cameron (the colours and pleats look great). I am aware that these are reproductions, and aware that the wool type is a little different than what is used on modern kilts, but very a very accurate representation of what was used at the time. The Gordon falls into my price range, and could be purchased within a week, while I would wait on the Cameron (which isn't on sale at this time). Well, I am fishing for feedback, impressions and what not. I have talked a little to Bubba, and his input was appreciated. I am sure he isn't the only one who has purchased a kilt from this firm though. What do the rest of you guys say?

They're also on my wishlist. I actually saw them for the first time yesterday, though I've heard of them before. They definitly look and sound excellent. I have to decide between a WPG and a SWK heavyweight for my next kilt, I think.

For those UP winters you might want at least 1 of those WPG beasts in the closet. Mine served me well last winter.

WPG Gordon
I had about a dozen adventures just getting a WPG kilt that fit---and it was all my fault. I'd ordered a Cameron that came in too big and too short. Frustrated, I put it in the closet and waited to grow (wider) and shrink (shorter). I hadn't taken the basting stitches out, though, and eventually contacted Jerry Lee, the owner of WPG. For the price of shipping he swapped me for another one, longer and narrower. I left the basting stitches in, though, because it was a brutal Houston summer, and no sense wearing that much wool in the heat. By the time what we laughably call winter rolled around, I was too skinny to fit into this one, too.
I e-mailed Jerry again, apologetically, and he swapped me straight up for another kilt. He didn't have another Cameron in my dimensions, but sent me a Gordon.
I really like it, it's solid and heavy and looks good. The buckles and straps are the sole weak point---the leather is very stiff and the buckle tongue is short and sharp. I'm going to replace the straps and buckles and be exceedingly happy with the kilt.
Best,
Kid Cossack (aka Kilted Cossack)

I've got the Cameron. Wore it all last winter & it kept me comfortably warm. I love the thing!
